Good Morning :hello:
Ay up Brizzle - lovely to *see* yabrizzledfw wrote: »Just popping in GP...the way you manage to eat so well whilst spending so little. Awesome!

Too right! Makes a refreshing change to have a cookery book written expressly from a good but economy position, rather than a celebrittee, I won the cupcake comp stance
So Monday - start of the week.
I'm already behind, so only a quick pop in from me
Aiming for a NSD.
I'll try and drop off the Food Bank donation today - we've bought it, so they might as well have it soonest
Dinner this evening is a new recipe courtesy of Muddywhitechicken - Afghan Carrot Hotpot - looking forward to making/sampling thatI will use the carrots from the bag of frozen veg I got in Ald* - as they are the nearest I will ever get to buying 'baby' carrots
:rotfl:Going to aim to make Cardamon flatbreads to go with too - an inspiration from the Maria Elias book again
Right, best shake a tail feather and get up and at 'em.
Have a great day one and all.
Thank you for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
See y'all later.

Good morning, Thank you Greying and Satchmo, for the recipes, I am making it this morning for lunch with Fave cous. I may well make wraps too or naan bread, (bought not HM I hasten to add.) She usually gets soup so it will surprise her!
Another NSD yesterday, and today should be NSD/LSD too. The sun is shining so must get washing out on the line, and there is an accessible border that could get attention too.0 -
Hi Greying
hope your day goes well, you have a long'un ...
And I also hope you're going to sell the book, if it'll make a profit for you - why not? Mind you, I do tend to take things off and donate them anyway if they don't sell after 4 months or so - I'm getting rid because I want the room, after all.
That frozen veg is a really good price - I'm not doing online shopping at Sainsbo any more, after the farce I described on my thread, but their cauli/broccoli mix is £1.30 for a kilo, and broccoli on its own is £1.50.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Hi Greying
Last night's bake looked great, despite you not being altogether enamoured with the book! I had a book clear out recently too and all the cookbooks I never use were donated to a charity shop. I thought it a bit pointless to keep them for the one recipe in each that suits us so I now just have one hairy bikers one and my new jack's book. She is one amazing lady and all her recipes are adaptable to whatever is left in the fridge. Nothing too complicated either....
Well, I've done it againSaturday, I pulled my back picking up a tea towel of all things and I have barely been able to move since. I first slipped a disc 20 years ago and have flare ups now and again, but this time is dire
It even hurts to sit on the loo!! (Too much info, I know, sorry.
....) I'm having to use OH's tablet to type this.....
So....we are going to have to eat out of the store cupboard and freezer for a while until I can get to the supermarket. This concerns me more than a little as I just managed to stop DH from binning 8 perfectly good mushrooms because the punnet had best before 4th march on it :eek: He doesn't understand the concept of stretching either, GP I am determined that he will not wreck my march budget during the first week :money:
I can't wait to see your dinner tonight! I might just have to survive on feasting the eyes not the belly!
Thanks again for the wonderful, entertaining posts xSealed Pot Challenge #012

Well, raining again here so no drive work being done but they have been round to let me know. Feel better about them today and think I was just overthinking things.
Not sure where I stand on getting rid of recipe books. I love Jamie O'Liver's books but have to say I don't really use the recipes. Most of them have been gifts though so no expense to me. I also love gardening books (especially design type ones) but don't read those very often either. I did declutter some cd's to Music Magpie the other week but have not yet had the cash. On the tracking site it says they are currently being reviewed.
Our local foodbank is saying it is running out of food and asking for donations, particularly UHT milk, pasta and tinned meat. I didn't even know we had one here but will look into giving something.0 -
Hey lady - I'm reading, as always, but applying for jobs (all good ones worthy for the stripy cause) so my attention is diverted. But wanted to say - Happy Monday to dearest Greying and all her fine readers/lurkers/contributors.

Good Evening :hello:
I'm 'calling early' tonight, as we've not yet eaten dinner and we've our 'committee meeting' to attend to - with an agenda as long as your arm... (all good), and I know that I will be fit for nowt but Bedfordshire at the end of it all.........
However, today has been S.U.P.E.R:D
Started off with a laugh by someone joining in a good-natured leg-pull (good one Caz) and has just got better and better - mostly because of positive/interesting interactions with folk
In addition, I have snagged a NSD :j
I did get chance to go to the Food Bank and drop off our contribution :j
And the weather???? We were supposed to have rain???? Erm, nope....wall-to-wall sunshine methinks
mrsinvisible - was your favourite cousin wowed????
Karma - isn't the veg a good price??? And I think it may well be a regular on the Greying shopping list - the carrots are lovely and sweet......And BOO to bl**dy sainsbo's (and HomeB) for mucking our Karma about!!!! I'd say I'd boycott them in protest for you, but the reality is I use neither........ well, mrS once in a blue moon for T bags........
little_sweetie - ouch! ouch! ouch! And to top it off, I'm not even going to post a 'picture of me tea' tonight eitherPlease take it easy dear heart, and let your DH take the strain
Mind you, well done you for a well-stocked pantry and larder for emergency situations just as this :T However, I have a feeling that MWC's recipe recommendation is going to be a *keeper* so I'll post a pic for definite tomorrow
dreaming - WOW at getting workmen to keep you informed as to what they are doingI always seem to get ones that work on ESP....except they've not paid the line-rental...... :rotfl: Our foodbank requires UHT semi-skimmed milk all the time. That is what we donate, as I can get 6 for just over £3 (Ald*) and I know it will be used. If I have extra resources, I go to the next thing on the list, or what delivers best value for our *buck*
Right, DP is ready to eat, so I best vamoose.........
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for a couple of minutes spent watching a 'Jenny' Wren on a rotten tree trunk - so small, yet so industrious......
for a genuine 'Thank you'
for the creeping onset of contentment and self-knowledge - I'm not there yet, but a conversation today left me feeling I'm a lot further along the road than I've given myself credit for.......
Thank you so much for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.
Right, carrot hot pot, here I come........
See y'all later.
EDIT: Pippi HEEELLLLLOOOOOO :wave::wave::wave:

Ay up!
I know I said I wouldn't be back.... but I've pegged me eyes open wif cocktail sticks and we've had a great 'committee meeting of minds'....so.........
Dinner tonight was Afghan Carrot Hotpot as referred to me by muddywhitechicken on account of me mentioning Sally Butcher and her book Veggiestan.
It was super easy to prepare. I did soak my split yellow peas (put them on to soak this morning - so 8hrs?), as I've got 'history' with them not cooking with normal stewing, but I have to say, they cooked well in this dish - probably about 45 mins. I didn't add the carrots until the end (ish) as I'm not a fan of cooking veg forever.... but the recipe does say to cook the carrots for 45-60 minutes...... Otherwise, the only difference was that I used 1/2 a (large) ordinary red chilli, not a scotch bonnet. I don't personally think that the dish needs 'heat', it is good enough in it's own right, but if you like hot/fruity chilli.....Picture here;
The Ald* frozen veg medley carrots were perfect for this dish - I would buy a bag of the veg again and 'divvy' the contents up with various dishes in mindIf you would like to have a bash at the dish yourself, you can find the recipe that muddywhitechicken linked me to HERE
I added HM yoghurt on top (as advocated in the recipe notes) and sprinkled a little chopped coriander on top, as I had it.
Right, I'm bushed. See y'all in the morning.
Ta everso for popping in

little_sweetie I hope your back settles soon, that sounds awful!
Karma - I just noticed your signature and may have to adopt it as my new mantra.
That looks lovely... I don't really like carrots when they've been cooked for too long so adding them in at the end sounds good to me!

Good Morning :hello:
Shrove Tuesday.
Snap bags are already packed. I'm slightly ahead of the curve this morning
Isn't it easier to function in light though? Much easier to get up out of bed too
I will aim to put the monies into the CU accounts today if I can - small queues at the PO please.....
Today will be a spend day, so we're going for bananas, milk and the TV guide to try and cover all bases :rotfl: Oh, and I'll need to buy eggs for the pancakes - if there are any eggs left in the shops!
Dinner this evening will be some sort of soup and then pancakesAnyone looking for a pic of last night's dinner - it is at post #1589 - I did come back on after all
Right, I best away and at 'em.
Thank you so much for dropping in, reading and commenting. I continue to appreciate it.
