Morning, I'm really enjoying reading through your thread today :j :j

Baked eggs?? Never heard of 'em! Mind you, I do occasionally crack an egg on top of a home made pizza and bake it - is that the same kind of thing? Love an egg on a pizza :D

dreaming - Love the alphabet 'tactic' - it's like every household has it's own rules for scrabble - but it sounds like a fun participation game - that's all that matters, and erm, no, I couldn't name a fruit/veg beginning with 'x' :rotfl: Hey, and whilst I've got your attention, do you remember before Christmas we were *talking* about Jenny Chandler, after you mentioned that recipe of her's in the observer? Well, I got her book 'Pulse' out of the library. Can heartily recommend it.

The alphabet game is a good one to play with kids although the 7yr old twins went outside to play and it was the 4 adults who were left arguing about whether we could have zucchini as a vegetable as it is, strictly speaking, American and we had already had courgette. But then we had allowed eggplant for 'E' so it was only fair.:rotfl:
Now that I am back 'online' with our library service I had looked for the Pulse book but they don't have a copy in the county. They have featured a couple more of her recipes in the Guardian cooking supplement which I have kept so will have go at those in the next few weeks. It's nearly time for the Jack Monroe book to be delivered. I'm sure it was February it was due - must check up on that.

Hope today is a good day for you.
  • Ay up, thought I'd pop in *early* and see what everyone's up to :D

In need of direction - I value the time that everyone gives to this thread each day - lovely to *see* you :D

Aww, fanks Cheery :D And yep, I reckon eggs atop pizza counts as baked eggs. The recipes I have put them on top of ragu, but yep, the outcome is the same. I suppose that you are ok with runny yolks? I'm afraid it is something that I have never got on with - even when yonks ago, we had our own chickens, and you couldn't have used a fresher egg :(

dreaming - gosh - Jack's book is due out about now isn't it. It seemed an age away when she first announced it..... I hope she gets all the recognition and kudos she deserves, and not a smidge of unpleasantness. The gal's a hero :D

Well, best go and rustle up summat for dinner.

See y'all the other side of the fry pan :D

I do indeed like runny yolks - although my baked ones are *never* runny, and in fact often have a kind of protective plastic-like film on the top that I have to peel off - might be cooking them for too long :D
  • Ooh Greying the choc porridge cake came out lovely! DH has been having humungous big slices warmed in the microwave topped with a dollop of vanilla ice cream so he's a happy bunny. Glad it was not just mine which cracked, icing sounds the perfect solution :D
I have ordered the jack Monroe book too which is due out next week 27th, I think. I had an Amaz*n voucher so I have ordered 2 books which will cost me a princely £1 :j

    Good Evening :hello:

oops, returning a little later than anticipated. Dinner took mucho longer to prepare than I had anticipated.....

Now, little_sweetie - your description of your chocolate porridge cake sounds just wonderful! You've tried a new recipe (Thanks Pippi :T) and not only has it turned out how it was supposed to, but it's getting scoffed up too (always the best compliment in my book :D) So bravo :T and thanks for letting us in on your success :D

Today has been mucho wonderful and such an antidote to yesterday :D I suspect that the wonderful (given the time of year) weather that we enjoyed (hope everyone else had it too) today, played a large part in the feel good factor.

So a NSD, but no *roadkill* found :( Never gonna be a penny millionaire me :(

I'm glad that I had made the 9p burgers in advance, otherwise we would be noshing on dinner at midnight. I have no idea why it took so long. I reckon any self-respecting student would of boogered off and gone to mickeyd's rather than grow old by the stove........ :rotfl:

    Anyhoo..... what we finally ended up with was a Jack's 9p burger (recipe HERE) in a HM onion piadina bun (fried onions added to the dough with nigella seeds), with zesty carrot slaw (grated carrots, sesame seeds, lime juice, ginger, salt and sugar), a cheese slice (last of the really cheap slices from L*dl) with chopped cornichons, topped with lime zest mayonnaise. Picture here;

    003_zps1b15c114.jpg

And no, the cheese doesn't look uber attractive...... but it was cheap :rotfl: and the picture is a crap shot, but I couldn't get the angles any better, and it had to be in fluorescent light, as you couldn't see anything otherwise :D

DP liked it and had 2 (one with cheese, one without as there were only 2 slices left), and commented that he was surprisingly full. I only had one :D The burger mix made 4 burgers - 3 x 100g and 1 x 130g. The 130g has been kept frozen for another day. I mixed the ingredients in a processor and used a burger press to form them - neither is necessary. Oh, and the piadina recipe is out of Jaymee O's 'Save' cookery book (his new one).

Nuther student meal deal crossed off the list :D Cheap in ingredients, expensive in time :D

    Today I am grateful for these 3 things;

for friends - good and longstanding. And for chinwags :D

for citrus - I was craving *fresh* flavours today, I had no leaves/salad, but citrus and fresh ginger worked admirably...hint of sun and I'm willing to ditch the stodge for salads :rotfl:

for the human emotion of caring - it makes a difference and can transform a life. Even tough cookie senior executives can't always hide that they really care......

Thank you so much for popping by today, for reading and commenting. You know how much I value it.

    See y'all later.

  • Good Morning :hello:

Running a bit behind this morning, but just about caught up :D

Will be trying for a NSD today. But have decided to put £10 of the money 'saved' on the insurance renewal into the emergency fund - that should bring me up to £300, with a couple of months to reach my target  Will see if I get time to nip into the PO today to credit the account. Hope so.

Dinner this evening will be a student staple - 'soup & a sandwich' :D I'm sure it is usually 'tinned & a tuna melt', but I'm going for sweetcorn chowder and a toasted cheese sarnie :D
We don't unfortunately own a br3ville toasted sandwich maker, so it won't look pretty :D

Thank you for popping by, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

:kisses3:Hi Greying! I'd just been taking some time off, lovely to catch up with you.

Interesting about the nigella seeds - they come from love in a mist, dont they? I accidentally brought some from my old garden to this one, and they grow well even tho the soil's so different, and they're very lovely - the seeds are very tiny, aren't they, good to put into scones and whatnot like this. Thank you!

Oooh - missed a few days so had a catch up of wonderful Greying wisdom and positivity! Thank you. :T

I have invested in two giant bags of lentils (brown and red) from the T world section as I want to cut down meat and eat more pulses - so will be looking out the Pulse book in the library too. Thanks for the heads up. And those burgers sound wonderful. Jack is an inspiration who deserves huge success with her book. That is one I may budget to buy.

Dusted down the breadmaker which had been consigned to the attic and made my first loaf today. Have to confess to using a mix to start with - but from Ald* so at least budget! Bread is actually delicious - very moreish which is the downside! :rotfl: But we have a very nice recipe book called Bread so once I get a bit more confident I will start to make my own from scratch. How hard can it be in a machine?? :p

Have a great day Greying and all.
