Living on next to nought - is that the key?

The flooding is terrible, isn't it ... I do feel so sorry for them. I live on a definite slope, the house is on a little high bit; there's a huge great hill to the south of me and the stream it runs off into is 400m to the north, so if it all gets worse around here, the road *may* become a stream itself. The stream itself, though, is thirty feet downhill, even though its so close, so I doubt my actual house will be flooded.
Sorry, that was a tangent ... Greying, awful to have that going on at 5.30
I guess you're the target if the partner finds he can't sleepI hope you point some stuff out about that tonight (:eek:) in the subcommittee, and if you're not happy with the plumber's timeframe, this sounds like a good time to do more research.
Exiting stuff to the charity shop is brill! Well done youHope your day goes well :kisses3:
2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Brill that you got enough sleep :j but pah at early morning grumpiness. Hope things get better over the day xx0

Oh dear! Sounds like someone taking lack of sleep out on you. Not what you need - especially at that time in the morning.
Hope you get the plumber sorted - always amazes me when people give the person offering them the job a hard time - either he can do what you want when you want or he can't! It isn't for you to fit in with his agenda. But sounds like his holiday is a good opportunity to check out all your options.
Your meals always sound gorgeous. Have been doing a lot more cooking with pulses and beans recently so thank you for sharing your ideas. :T
have a good day and stay dry!0 -
Good Evening:hello:
Visitors - how luverly:D:D
I'll catch up with you all just now. I'm just letting the flavours meld together in tonight's dinner and I thought whilst I have a spare minute, I'll upload the pic/recipe for what we had for dinner last night.
It was Urid dhal in fenugreek sauce - although I can't (easily) get hold of fresh fenugreek leaves (methi) so I use fenugreek seeds ground up
Picture here;
And if you are tempted to try it, then the recipe is HERE
I forgot to say - I can claim a NSD for yesterday - and now today, hence why I've gone up to 7 in one fell swoop - it's not smoke and mirrors.
Right, I'm away to scoff. I shall be back later.

Good Evening :hello: (again

You're still mentally on track GP, despite vague plumbers and sleep deprived OHs. Very unreasonable of you to sleep through his insomnia though....
Ay up Piq. Do you know what? That is such a lovely thing to say, and dare I risk sounding upmeeselftoomuch - actually, just what I needed to hear:D You're right, I am still mentally on track. It is the weather, vague plumbers and 'think of a figure' carpenters that are currently trying to derail me. hmmm. Might need to ponder on that and see how I translate mental toughness into kickin some !!!!!! into action.
Actually, thinking of !!!!!!, I saw something today that would be the sort of thing that you would spot. Some roofers were fixing some sort of cladding to the front of a shop, over one of the main windows. One of them was up the step ladder, whilst his mates were clowning about at his feet. They'd obviously noticed how loose his trousers were, and clearly oblivious to anyone passing by, decided it would be a jolly jape to pull them down....... as I was on the other side of the street, I can confirm that it is not only builders who are 'airy-harsed'..... goodness knows what any customers in the shop would be able to confirm* for you......... :rotfl:I hope you point some stuff out about that tonight (:eek:) in the subcommittee, and if you're not happy with the plumber's timeframe, this sounds like a good time to do more research.
That, unfortunately was the issue Karma - we have our 'sub-committee' meetings on a Monday night. I'd finally co-erced him into looking into some pension details, and.......
Thank you for your supportive posts KC - I value them immensely
Ay up Cheery - lovely to *see* ya. And thank you, yes, the day did get better - well, after things had 'bottomed-out' :rotfl:
ooooh, mizmir - I'm so with you about tradespeople. I mean, don't get me wrong, there are plenty of appalling customers, who mess the trades about, I know that. But our plumber knows us, knows we're reasonable folk, not too demanding, pay on time etc etc. I would be loathed to go elsewhere, but he's making it very difficult. Fingers crossed his hols will refresh, and armed with info, I'll become positively indomitable and he'll get on with the work and we'll get back on task/timetable :T
Well, as I said before, today was a NSD, so that was good. No *roadkill* found
Has everyone else had 4 seasons of weather in one day today? I'm trying to think what we didn't have...... thunder and lightning maybe?
Oh, and I managed to drop a few things off at the CRUK shop, so a) the decluttering has started and b) i'm chuffed that I can add a little more to my charitable 'giving' this month. Funnily enough CRUK have not yet cashed my cheque that I sent....... Perhaps it is too piffling an amount for them..... hope not.
Actually,I feel wrong saying de-cluttering. As it is quite good stuff going out of the house, but we don't use it, so I guess it is clutter.
So, dinner this evening was via a recipe gleaned from our library's copy of 'Save with Jamie' (don't forget Mr O donated a copy to every library in the UK, so go get your mitts on your library's copy now). I have to say, I didn't oven roast the butternut squash for 30 mins, as advocated by Jaymee, as I don't put the oven on for '1 thing' - and I have to say, I think it is unnecessary anyway......... I also have no raisins (only valoo sultanas - meant to be for DP's porridge of a morn) so I used chopped prunes instead. I had no fresh coriander, and I didn't bother topping it with yoghurt (HM) because I did that last night. But apart from that, it is a smashing recipe :rotfl: Nice sweet and savoury thing going on with a hint of heat from the chilli flakes. It's a keeper. It was also the third of the 'new' recipes that I pledged to make in the month of February
Picture here;
Quite a frugal recipe - butternut squash (half) 25p ald* S6, chickpeas from a 2kg bag of dried - about 20p, manzanilla olives from HB 29p (had to de-stone them tho), prunes - 1/3 of a bag, so 33p, 1/2 a box passata (should of been tinned toms), 14p, an onion and some spices - 10p? and some cous cous (actually fine bulghar) from AF about 20p's worth. So £1.50 ish for 2 plate fulls and a small snap portion left over. Save wif J indeed :money:
If you would like the recipe, and haven't got access to the book, I've also found it on a blog - isn't dizzy lizzy an MSE'r??? Anyway, she's blogged about it HERE
We were watching some of the women's ski jumping competition as we ate dinner. I'm usually quite good with heights, but jeez, when they showed the view from where the jumper sits before setting off _pale_
Today I am grateful for these 3 things;
for a 'loose elastic' larf
that DP has come home in a better mood and that mood has improved through dinner and beyond
for the sound of an agitated blackbird causing me to look out of the kitchen window and note that it was still quite light at 5.30pm :T
Thank you so very much for popping in, reading and commenting. I continue to appreciate it.
See y'all later.

I was thinking of you today - I found roadkill! Only a penny, and I was racing for the bus, and I *nearly* went past, and then I thought, I'd have to tell Greying, I couldn't keep it a secret - so I stopped sharpish, and picked it up :rotfl:
The other thing, of course, is your food posts - thinking about me not cooking, just assembling ingredients, I didn't click to the fact that a lot of people make *dishes*, like you do (but not as well as you), I didn't click to that until I was in my 30s, honestly (even though I passed my Cookery O level!). And between that and my lack of attention to detail (and crap ovens) I've never really picked it up. But I love looking at what you're doing, and I admire your passion for it, its wonderful.Oh, and I managed to drop a few things off at the CRUK shop, so a) the decluttering has started and b) i'm chuffed that I can add a little more to my charitable 'giving' this month. Hope you sleep well, and catch up some :T2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
Good Morning :hello::eek::rotfl: good grief. I might describe that as "a little self involved"
Unfortunately Karma I wasn't the window-side, but given how nippy it was yesterday, I reckon *little* would probably of been the order of the day....... :rotfl:
YAY! We both had a good night's sleep :j:j
I suppose that supports 2 things; if you've got worries try to talk about them...... although rowing with loved ones = not so good, and if you're getting the feeling that you are losing control in a situation (ie the plumber holding us up) then try to action something - doesn't have to be connected necessarily - ie I got on with what I could do with some de-cluttering. Either that or we were both too knAckered to care and fell asleep anyway :rotfl:
Today should be a NSD - hopefully.
Dinner tonight will be another 'first'. It's not a recipe as such, but I got the inspiration from Maria Elias' book The Modern Vegetarian - she of the wonderful parsnip risotto/orzotto
Right, best shift a tail-feather.
Thank you so very much for popping in, reading and commenting. I greatly appreciate it.

Oooh er, Greying you do see life in the raw! :rotfl::rotfl: and you have given me a laugh to start the day! We had a rough day yesterday with, as you say, all four seasons in one day and, to top it all, the electricity box in the street started smoking and had to be turned off leaving several homes without power until late last night. It seems water had penetrated the box, unsurprisingly :eek:
Last night's dinner looked lovely. Thanks so much for the invitation to come and live with you, after a glance at dinner I think it will have to be on a permanent basis though
Best of luck for a happier outcome with the plumber and I am so glad you both managed a better night's sleep. Things always seem easier to cope with after a good few zzzzzz's

Greying, Iforgot to say that every year dear FiL asks us to send a cheque for £20 to the Poppy Appeal and it's always 4-6 weeks before it comes off our account. I used to work for a charity (a Cheshire Home) and, believe me, we were grateful for every penny donated so feel proud of yourself for donating what you haveSealed Pot Challenge #012
