  • Right, so I have just made an adjustment to my computer settings, as described on a help forum on the net. I am hopeful that it will work for my computer and that we can get back to normal posting :T

I hope to be able to continue in a similar vein to that which I had been doing, because I am finding this diary soooo useful in terms of motivation. And all you lovely people who take the time to look in and cheer me on - well, you know how I feel about y'all :o

Besides which, a new year has started and I've not really begun to set down our financial and practical goals yet! If I've not set them down, how on earth can I see if we've reached them?

One thing that I forgot to mention is that DP and I have agreed to have January as a 'no buying alcohol' month - following our success in October. If we manage it, the money will go towards the deposit for our holiday - fair exchange I reckon :T

Right, well, it is getting late and we've to be up and around early tomorrow to, hopefully, get the main grocery shop done and dusted - weather permitting of course :)

So, I'm going to leave on a positive note, because this post will post - with no problems whatsoever...........

    Pressing submit, now.........

*snorts* :D :rotfl: Bet it's the first time anyone's said that to you on here GP!

Am musing over the idea of starting a new diary here myself - I want this year to be about being more organised, procrastinating less, and "breathing in" again financially, and I have a feeling that here might be the right place to help me focus on that. I was wondering whether I could just use my blog, but....hmmmm.

Oh, and blowing the "more organised" thing right outta the water - I think I forgot to say Happy New Year! Our NYE was spent in a pub in Dartmouth, South Devon, dressed as Romans. Beer was drunk and we were with family and chums so all good there.

Food as ever is looking tasty. I WILL have a go at the 9p burgers! :) I also have many more things I want to have a go at - and now have additional book type inspiration to work from as we were given River Cottage Fruit Everyday and Rick Stein's India as Christmas pressies! as well as the RC handbooks "Bread" and "Edible seashore" :j

Good work on the computer-thing, too. Annoying when the technology revolts, isn't it!

Sorry to hear that you've had puter problems and glad that they are resolved now.

Jack's burgers looked nice. I am planning to make them soon as I am rejecting the idea of eating meat more and more.

    I remember Wimpy bars too!

Hope you have survived the weather intact over the last couple of days. Bit of flooding here in Bristol but defences worked so all as well.

    Have a good weekend.

Great that you fixed your computer problems! And guess what, just as I'd typed you a post, I clicked advanced and my *new* modem kicked me off the web! Fixed by unplugging and plugging back in, but my heart sank, I tell you, to think of all the modem problems starting back up again so, thinking about it, I can entirely understand you feeling that discouraged about your posts on here. Hope your problem has gone away permanently - mine too!

Looking forward to whatever "goals" post you feel you can put up here.

Hi GP - love the picture of your "Wimpy" meal. I well remember spending about 2 hours in the local Wimpy over a cheeseburger with my friends. We used to take it in turns to order so we could legitimately sit there as long as possible then go down the road to listen to some records in the booths at Boots. I haven't made Jack's burgers but have her book on order for when it is published.
I am trying to sort out my "study" (really the 2nd bedroom but sounds posher) as that is where most stuff lands up. I really want to try some creative hobbies this year (but on a budget) so need to organise storage for that. Also I am dong some free online courses through FutureLearn and a local authority evening class so need to plan my time.
I know you are having techno-problems, and it is a pain when it doesn't work, but isn't it amazing really what we can do with all this internet. I love it and hate it in equal measures.
Now - have been washing out some of the chutney/pickle jars we had over Christmas. Do I keep them in case I get the sudden urge to do preserves (thus using up more storage) or just put them in the recycling? More tea and thinking required.
  • Good Afternoon :hello:

AliBee16 and miss empty piggy - thank you both very much for your kind comments about my...... bread :D It was a shame that I only had white bread flour to make them (usually do half & half), but they did rise beautifully :D (oh, and I use L*dl bread flour - nowt fancy :))

*snorts* :D :rotfl: Bet it's the first time anyone's said that to you on here GP!

And in real life too EH :rotfl:I attract the sort of comments more usually associated with Shrove Tuesday :rotfl:

I think the diary idea is splendid EH - starnac is back, all we need is you and Karma and we're almost back up to quota :D

Hi Gintot - yes, Jack's burgers are a good, simple recipe. I forgot to add that I use a burger press (sounds fancy, but since I have it, I may as well use it) and I weigh the bean mash into 100g portions and press them - that way, I get uniform burgers that cook at the same rate. This last time, I got 3 x 100g burgers and one burger that was 130g. Actually, the burger in the shot is the 130g one - but I can confirm that the 100g one tasted as yummy :D Anyway, the point of which, is to say for one tin of red kidney beans, you can make a meal for a few! They are tasty too - which I know is something that meat-eaters fear about veggie food, that it won't 'taste' of anything. The cumin is the master stroke I think :)

Thank goodness I'm not alone in remembering Wimpy Bars :D

Karma - it is dispiriting isn't it to lose a post? Yes - bah! to all 'puter problems - let's hope a temporary and one-off glitch eh?

So we've done the grocery shopping and a bit more besides, just in case you think we've taken forever in mrT :rotfl: I found 5p in *roadkill* :j I saw a penny in mrT's carpark, bent down to pick it up, then spotted another and another...... 5 pennies, cast onto the floor - who throws money away?? I've got the milk for our foodbank donation. I wasn't able to 'bump up' our contribution this month, as I could spend no where near £20 in mrT to gain the £2 off. So the milk donation stands at £3.30.

I also noted that red kidney beans have gone up in price in L*dl, they are now 24p a can - and yet bread flour has come down to 75p from 79p..........#loseononegainonanother

We did get carrots from mrT - they were 10p cheaper than Ald* - despite Ald* stuff clearly being 'bagged for christmas'. But I have to say, the 'Super 6' produce in Ald* was good today and I also got a wonderful cauli - decent size and grown in Lincolnshire - for 59p. A bargain I reckon :D

DP managed to do a favour for the gardening parental this morning that cost DP nothing but time and organisation but has saved the gp about £50, so good karma is a flowing - and it seems that we got some of it almost instantly - we were buying something in B&M and it was £x plus a penny - the assistant asked if we had a penny - we hadn't - but a complete stranger in the queue said, 'I have...' and handed it to the assistant - how kind!

Right, I had better get on and do something constructive again. DP is busy with DIY, so I've got to keep up :D

    See y'all later.
