    Here is to the next 1000.

    Yay :beer: (thats Belgian beer, by the way).

    And, ooh, Julie and Julia - I taped it too, watched it a couple of days ago, and I'd not seen it before - absolutely loved it. Poignant at the end, but a good'un. 2002 must have been in the early days of blogging, good for her for getting out there :j

    Getting out is a wee bit difficult today, as its peeing down, but my trusty umbrella is right by the door, I shall be off soon to do my thing :D I *think* I've timed everything better this year :j

    Thank you beanie - and as you've been 'with' me from the start - I appreciate that you're considering staying around for the next instalment :D

    :rotfl::rotfl: and..... oh, um, well. I'm not so sure that the menu will be drool inducing this year brizzy - I have cut back on spending this month - as it was tight anyway, and December is an awful month for money just 'evaporating'. I have to say, I am incredibly envious of 'brunch' at brizzle towers. I wanted to go down the 'curry' or something completely different route this year - mostly because I would rather be out walking or cycling (now a no no as my bike is broken :() on Christmas Day, but DP wants 'traditional'. So a quick walk it is (weather permitting) then I'm chained to the kitchen :( We're having 3 nut roast - almonds, cashew and brazil - with all the 'normal' trimmings (perhaps some sprouts if the plants I planted out earlier in the summer at the gardening parental's allotment perform to script :D), and definitely bread sauce *slurp*. DP wanted xmas pud, but I thought the Ald* 'it's an award winner, better than the posh shops' pudding we had last year was extremely overrated, so I can't be bothered with bought and can't afford to make our own. So pud will either be a slice of the 'spiced' Jamaica ginger cake that I got from HB served with custard, or a chocolate pud - of yet undetermined recipe heritage (ie I'm not sure whether to go the sponge/cheesecake or mousse route) to be sampled with some 'real ale' stout that I have bought.

    In the evening, we will have our usual 'cheese board', with crackers, cheese, pickles, gherkins, chutney, olives, home-made frijomole dip and stuffed piquant peppers. And if that partridge is still hanging about in that pear tree, we'll probably eat that too :rotfl:

    I much prefer to focus on Christmas Eve anyway. Although our dinner this year is going to be fairly modest - mediteranean meat-free bAlls with wet polenta. Which doesn't sound very appetising, but does, I assure you, taste delish! Plus I have a nice bottle of red to accompany this, so we'll enjoy that.

    Oh, I forgot to put up the pic of last night's dinner - I picked the wrong photo.

    014_zps876c7d44.jpg

    We didn't eat it all - there is some left for another day :D

    I had to toddle off out for a couple of hours. The universe decided to send me 2 (!) examples as reminders of why I dislike living in this place and why I mustn't take my foot 'off the gas'. *sigh* All before midday too! I actually ventured onto the high street - which shows how desperate I was for a change of scene! and sought out the collectors for the charity I mentioned previously. So they are a couple a quid better off and I got a breath of fresh air. And to be totally fair, although it was busy, people were good natured and there was no manic walking through folk because 'I've got shopping to do' - for which I am thankful :D

    Right, better go and do a bit more. DP will be back soon, so better get the kettle on :D

    Poor Piq! :rotfl: We never suspected you of cannibalism before, Greying :rotfl:

    I'm back from my own shopping trip, and *very* glad to get indoors - just for about 15 seconds there, I was actually scared by the force of one particular gust that nearly bowled me over _pale_ I'm not going out there again for anything.

    I can understand wanting different for Christmas Day this year - I went different for my birthday lunch last weekend, we had Chinese instead of the usual "roast-whatever" that you often get at this time of year. It was glorious, too :T

    Enjoy your meal this evening :bdaycake:

    dreaming - bless you, for your kind comment. But I too get the doubt of 'is it meant to look like that' - or more often - 'is it meant to be that colour' :rotfl:I like your ingenious food storage method - it's a surprise to get xmas pud on the menu in July - don't let anyone persuade you different :rotfl:

    Ha - I wish I could lose the xmas puds. I have 2 which are 2 years old as we are always too stuffed to eat them after lunch. I am determined that they will be eaten this year but as I am having 2 xmas dinners (1 with son and his family on xmas day, and another on boxing day for my daughter who is working on xmas day (she is a nurse)) then I am probably going to be double stuffed.
    I was out early this morning on the last food run but surprisingly there didn't seem to be the usual crowds - even for a "normal" Saturday. I noticed the same in the town centre as well in the week - despite the council giving us free parking there were empty floors in the multi storey, and the shops were really quiet. Mind you, our once thriving town centre is a sad place now with the empty shops. I only really go there now for my library books.
  • Not sure i'm doing this right - just joined today - have read through quite a few forum threads and there are some really amazing and inspiring people /stories- yours included. I am looking forward to reading more and getting my own diary started soon (when I've worked out how to do it). Thanks :)

  • Good Morning :hello:

    Karma - burfday??? Ya kept that quiet :D I agree about wanting something 'different' taste-wise. Thing is, we don't really eat 'roast' very often, but it still doesn't equate to 'special' for me - but I do realise I am lucky to be fed and have choices, so life is sweet :D

    dreaming - I think the shops seem to be quiet here too. Mind you, DP said ald* was a zoo yesterday afternoon, and the thing about letting people in front of you (if they have one item and you have filled the conveyor belt) to be served had gone out of the window :(

    Enjoying life more - I see you have started a diary. Good luck on your journey :D

    Dinner last night went well. I was very pleased with how the 'stew' turned out - the flavours had really developed and melded. Really tasty and prunes are a great addition! Plus there was sufficient for a large snap portion for another day. I was disappointed with the wine. It was French, from mrW and I'm really not sure what it was supposed to taste like. It wasn't corked or anything, and I know that old world wines are better with food - so we only started drinking it as we began eating. But it just dried our mouths out, and just didn't do anything for itself or the meal. Ah well, I rarely buy French wine anyway, I always remember why on the rare occasion that I do...... :) Julie and Julia was as entertaining as I remember, so all in all, we had a wonderful evening. A picture of dinner here;

    And yes, that is garlic bread :D Made with a 20p baguette from L*dl. Very nice :D

    So today is a tidy up and cooking day. Hopefully it will be red lentil polpette for dinner, as I substituted bobotie earlier on in the week.

    Right, best get up and at 'em.

    Have a great day whatever you are up to.

    Thanks for dropping in, reading and commenting. You know I appreciate it.

    See y'all later.

    It was while I was offline, guv, honest :D next year has a big, big zero in it - I shall count myself as officially middle-aged, but in the old days I'd be, well, old :eek:

    dreaming - I think the shops seem to be quiet here too. Mind you, DP said ald* was a zoo yesterday afternoon, and the thing about letting people in front of you (if they have one item and you have filled the conveyor belt) to be served had gone out of the window :(
    Shops round here are quiet too - I popped into the town centre to bank some cheques, and I was dawdling in the bank waiting for the machine to print the receipt - one of the "customer service assistants" leapt at me because she thought I needed help :rotfl: they were obviously really bored.
    :) Julie and Julia was as entertaining as I remember, so all in all, we had a wonderful evening. A picture of dinner here;

    Excellent! I thought I spied garlic bread :j shame about the wine, but I hope you drank it anyway :D
    So today is a tidy up and cooking day.
    I'm having a lot of days of the tidying up variety _pale_ I'm determined it *will* get done :rotfl:

    Have a good one when you're out and about today :)
