Ok to cut a long traumatic story short - it's my daughter's prom tonight and we had a dress made for it at a bridal type shop. When zipping her in tonight bit you pull the zip with came off half way up! and was stuck. Long and short I have sewn her into the dress as best I could and am now praying it will last.
Do I have any redress with the dress maker? In a brief text she has offered to repair the zip that was obviously not fit for purpose - is that the best we can expect?
(by the way it wasn't a size issue and that the dress wouldn't do up, just a zip that didn't do the job)
TIA for any help

You're entitled to a repair, replacement or refund - it is the seller's discretion which to offer. If she has offered to repair the dress then she's doing all she must do. A good seller (who wants repeat business/recommendations and not to end up with bad reviews/word of mouth) would probably also offer you some money back as a goodwill gesture but she isn't under any obligation to do this.
Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!

I guess I thought that really - just upset that this has happened. It is just frustrating that my daughters day has been spoilt!

The options in life aren't 'perfect' or 'spoilt'!

A stuck zip is a glitch and won't spoil the whole day unless you and she let it. If she's sewn up she'll still go to the do and have a great time unless she chooses to mope about the dress and let it influence her enjoyment of the rest of the day.

I know what you mean - unfortunately this was the icing on the cake so to speak after a run of bad luck. (not going into that) - i told her we will laugh about it one day - but she wouldn't be human to not be disappointed!
