if you've only just done it, windows update may be busy, but your log from 3 months ago had IE8, as did the one from oct 2011, and the one from Dec 2009

uninstall

In internet explorer, click on tools, internet options, advanced, disable script debugging

I'm not suprised I've loaded it before! Just did it again and it seemed to slow it up so presumed it was that...

So I guess I just need to go through and tidy up again as before?

if you backed up properly, you'd be able to always put it back to a good state.

don't know what you mean by loaded it, if it's already there, and has been for years, there's nothing to load.

so how do I back up properly? I back up files/photos to an external hard drive but how do I back up the whole system?

Internet Explorer 8 (not Windows Explorer 8) was released in March 2009, you can't have just installed it. IE7 has been obsolete for years, even on XP.

Most of the PCs where I work are still running IE7, having only fairly recently upgraded from IE6.

Microsoft still supports IE6 and IE7, and will presumably do so until support for Windows XP as a whole is abandoned next year.
