How much compensation could I be entitled to for Bank Error?

So you have been without a card for 2 days so far.
I have to quote 7 days for delivery of cards. Yet speak to people who get them in 2 to3 days.
Card production and delivery is out of the banks hands. As a aside many people think getting them delivered to a branch is quicker.... It in most cases can delay things as the card has to be sent to the banks card department and then sent via internal mail to the branch.
I would wait till you get the new cards and then look at what extra you have had to do to manage over that period.
Remember also if a card is stopped due to fraud or you lose one, there is no compensation for you being without a card till a new one is delivered.
Yes they have messed up. So. Best guess say £100 would be more than generous.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
RBS usually produce cards within a day or two. 7 working days sounds rather pessimistic0

I read a post somewhere where recently an RBS customer tried to pay for a meal on his debit card but RBS systems went down at that particular time. He had to get a colleague to pay for his food which RBS refunded & compensated him with an extra £25 for his inconvenience, now that was just for an evening, we are looking at 7 days minimum here.
I don't think they are going to give you £25 x 7 =£175
You say your self that you haven't actually lost any money, and you weren't constantly being embarrassed by this in public for 7 days, as you took money out to cover your expenditure.
An apology and a goodwill payment of £50 would be appropriate, I feel.Early retired - 18th December 2014

Once again, thanks again for all the replies. I received a message alert on Friday 12th from RBS stating my new card will be despatched within 48 hours & my pin should arrive in 2-3 working days. The only inconvenience I’ve experienced so far is my card being rejected in Tesco and spending an hour in the bank trying to sort it all out. Since then we have just spent less & not wasted money which is probably a good thing.
I am not seeking to bankrupt the bank & I only used the example of another case where the individual received £25 for his evening of inconvenience. It is highly unlikely that the bank would pay me £25 x 7 & I think those that have stated between £50 & £100 compensation are on cue. I wasn’t even aware I’d be entitled to anything until the complaints department asked me how I felt they could compensate me.
I’ll just see what their department has to say about the matter when they call me in a few days.0 -
Just a tip lost and stolen cards get sent out over priority to replacement cards.

When there's a major cockup that inconveniences you, you SHOULD be entitled to some form of compensation as an apology.
If he/she didnt have cash on him/her to pay for the shopping it would've been a lot worse. What will your verse be?

So far plenty of solutions have been given to over come the situation.
It still shocks me that people still walk around with just one debit card.
I'm not saying they shouldn't be entitled to any it's just more the fact they are rattling on about how much it should be etc.
They should just throw a figure at them and see what they.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -
But they did, and it wasn't.
Doesn't matter - the act of cancelling a card without informing someone can lead to a very embarrassing scenario and/or major inconvenience.
I used to travel by train a lot at silly times in the morning, before the banks are open. If they cancelled my card I would've been stuffed. I now have the sense to carry multiple cards, but it's not something everyone would necessarily think of unless they've had an experience causing them to think that.So far plenty of solutions have been given to over come the situation.

I think they only asked because the bank asked how much

Yes, it is shocking. Though the real shocker is that an awful lot of people think they can only have one current account, and they often think so because banks love to make people believe that that's some sort of a rule.
This misconception will be very much kept alive when that new switcher service goes live in September - - they even automatically close your old account. So people with a low level of initiative will continue to think one current account is all they can have.
Of course an alternative to carrying 2 debit cards could be one or more credit cards. But some people prefer not to use credit cards. Also, a credit card needs paying off regularly, so if you only have one current account you could be in trouble if one of them isn't accessible for whatever reason. It happens rarely but when it happens is can be of disastrous proportion - - ref the RBS/NW/Ulster meltdown not too long ago.0
