Dropped daughter off at terminal 3 to fly to Tansania. First stop at Addis Abbaba. Her cash card has been declined, I'll elaborate on that later, I'm trying to send her cash via Western Union. before sending the money, it's not asking where she is to collect it , which should be Terminal 3 heathrow, . Does anyone know how WU works?s he is checking her bags in now to fly at 20.00.
Are you sure that it is really her that is in trouble? Emails about a sudden emergency and Western Union are usually scams originating in Africa.0 -
It is just RBS group machines, so not in Africa. The OP was referring to an English airport0

thats probably because Tesco ATM's are run by RBS0 -
I think she needs to ask her bank Lloyds/Visa to explain why they left her marooned with no money.
I bet her Lloyds bank is one of the branches that is changing to TSB. They have started sending out replacement TSB cards, and 14 days later they cancel the old Lloyds card. If for some reason the new card doesn't arrive, you end up with your old card blocked and unusable. Which is exactly what happened to me - except that I wasn't at an airport waiting to leave the country!I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0 -

Indeed, the moral of the story is not to rely on one card.
And why anyone on earth would ever use their lloyds card abroad is another matter. Have fun with that £1 + 2.99% per transaction fee abroad!0 -
I understand your concern Voyager, it wasn't an email, but a trembly voiced daughter ringing me the moment I arrived home at 6 pm. I knew there was a problem on the phone ringing and assumed the trip was cancelled.Voyager2002 wrote: »Are you sure that it is really her that is in trouble? The flight wasn't until 9, so had she been travelling alone, I would if necessary, driven back to give her cash.
Lloyds/Visa, should not have cancelled her card, saying a new one had been sent. They should surely wait for the new one to be activated before cancelling the old one. Besides, the current card runs until 2014.
I have told her so many times to open additional bank accounts. The banks don't like it though unless you sign up to DDs and so on, which makes it difficult.
I was the bank's worst nightmare having had to go with the Co-op and then being chucked out by them.
I went to Nat West asking to open a "Basic Bank Account." I told the absolute truth and was passed as having any account with them I chose. No, I don't understand it either.
However, my gripe is with Western Union. Yes expensive, but as a last resort, one to rely on. To say they have no way of sending cash to Heathrow is mad. Think of those who lose their cards, have to pay extra but don't have the funds etc.
Travelex were waiting at Heathrow for the transfer. Western Union seem to have no knowledge of the Travelex desk at Heathrow.
The closest I got to a solution was WU suggesting a corner shop in Hounslow. I'm afraid I ended up telling WU that they were useless, which was the truth. "Never heard of Heathrow.!"0 -
She wasn't intending using her card abroad, she was trying to obtain cash at Heathrow from an ATL before leaving the UK.reclusive46 wrote: »Indeed, the moral of the story is not to rely on one card.

It was declined as card cancelled, although dated 2014, hence the panic.0 -
Whether travelling in the UK or abroad it's always worth having a plan B and a plan C to fall back on should a bank card fail, an ATM break down or an account get frozen.0
