Can I transfer my home insurance to the new owner?

Thanks for all answers so far. I've done a bit more research online and a lot of people say that insurers have a 'gentleman's agreement' to cover the new onwer of a property that has had subsidence. But I'm not sure if this applies to Halifax, and I've phoned them twice to ask, only to get completely different answers! One person said it should be fine as long as the owner meets their eligibility, the other kept saying that the new owner would have to ask and then they would be able to decide. Not very reassuring.
Does anyone know whether Halifax do indeed subscribe to this gentlenman's agreement to continue to provide cover to a new owner?0 -
Halifax aren't an insurer.0

Both those answers look the same, not "completely different"!
(They won't promise to cover, but will decide after getting an application from the new owner)0 -

Thanks Quentin - OK true enough, they are similar answers guess! I'm just worried that if they're going to treat the new onwer as new business, they will just turn down the application the same way most insurers do when they hear there's been previous insurance.0 -
Why are you so concerned over the buyer's insurance?
They will know about the subsidence issue, and will be getting advice on all the implications including insurance cover.
(A BIBA broker can help get you cover for a property with previous subsidence.)0
