Refused Overdraft after 3 years?

Hello,
I am a third year independent student. I have recently discovered that I was always refused an increased overdraft due to a 'business marker' this only coming to light last week or so.
They never told me before, now that Ive removed it, they wont increase my overdraft now as they gave me a 'temporary overdraft' to cover charges etc. they are now stating this is in a 'collections' phase, why didnt they tell me this would affect my next application? they advised me to have the Temp Overdraft.
Now im on a financial negative, as they have never 'honoured' the overdraft
