PPI success - Quick question

Back in January I received a letter from Canada SquareOperations with a questionnaire in it, although I knew it was genuine I did not fill it out as it was referring to an Egg CC account I have back in 2001. I put the questionnaire in my pile of letters and their it sat until Mid-June of this year.
After sorting out the pile of letters I come across the questionnaire, filled out what I could (this was next to nothing as I simply could not recall anything about the sign up process with Egg online). Within a week I have had aresponse from Canada Square Operations stating my complaint had been upheld!**falls off chair in shock***
CRP Premiums paid - £1458.50
Refund of Interest on premiums paid - £416.89
Interest at the rate of 8% £598.29
Total Refund Due - £2473.68!
Ok, now they have my attention and I’m somewhat overwhelmed by what has just transpired ( I won’t be putting this letter in the pile)..but it got me thinking that all they have done is covered my costs plus interest, should they not be paying damages as well? It appears I was mis-sold PPI – even though I can remember If I actually had it or not.
So my question is, should I write back claiming damages?,has anyone done this and succeeded? Or should I just take their first offer?
Any help here greatly appreciated.

Doubt it.should I write back claiming damages?,has anyone done this and succeeded?
Unless you think the totals are wrong - Yes
should I just take their first offer?
They don't pay damages or compensation.0 -
The 8% is compensation and if this was upheld, they redress to FOS rules on redress, you will get no more unless you know that you paid more PPI than they say and you have proof of this.0
