Hi,
After making a accidental insurance claim for a TV which cost nearly £2500 4yr ago the Halifax say old TV can't be repaired so are offering a new replacement from another manufacturer which costs £849.99 from Comet.
Question i would like to ask is: is it right for them to offer me a TV which isn't the same make and nowhere near the price i payed.
Any help appreciated
Regards

Putting it bluntly, yes.
The price is irrelevent, as is the make.
If the TV offered is the same spec, type and size, then they are fulfilling the terms of the agreement with yourself.0 -

Yes looks like you are correct as they won't budge at all.
Don't know if its any different when it comes to electrical claims or if its down to the individual compaines.
When i was with LloydsTSB years ago and made a claim for a carpet they settled the claim in full... i.e purchase price.
Will be moving back to LloydsTSB as soon as i can.0 -
Unfortunately electrical goods have dropped quite dramatically in the last few years. My computer cost me over £2000 but nowadays I can buy one with 10 times the processor speed and memory and 50 times the hard disk size for under £500. That seems to give people a shock when it comes to claiming through insurance for them. Carpets, beds, in fact most household goods have risen in price and so you would be paid more to replace them.
Dont forget it is the job of insurance to put you back exactly in the position you were before the claim and if they can do that at half the cost............why not.....??I have retired from a career in Financial Services........Thank God. Any advice given may be as a result of senile dementia so dont take it too seriously.......
