Debt Free. Old statements. Shred them?

Hi there
I have now been debt-free for just over two years and at the time I received letters from all the companies I had debts with confirming the debts were settled. I'm now wondering if it is safe to shred all CCCS statements, bank statements, credit card statements and debt letters as I've not had any contact with the companies since their settled letters.
Thanks in advance

Bulk of stuff can probably be got rid of, but I would keep the letters confirming settlement and at least a few of the last statements for a minimum of 6 years, and probably a few after that.
We see time after time old debts that were supposed to be settled being chased 5, 6 ,7 or more years later, so can be handy to have just the important things that prove your case for settlement still on file.Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Hi fermi
Thanks for your quick response. I was in two minds about the letters. In some respect I want to be shot of all it, but you are right you never know who is going to popup years later looking for money.
I think I will just get rid of the earlier statements and keep the final statements and letters.
Thanks for your help!0
