We pay our gas and electric to british gas , we have been paying £31 p/month for gas for months and months and £30 p/month for leccy for months and months and months , we got a letter from BG sayign they have reviewd our usage of elctricity and as a result our monthly bill needs to go up to £84 a month !! i couldnt beleive it , i rang them and they said you let your bill get higher without paying more than the £30 a month ? but i said surley you should have got in touch earlier ??
Where do i stand on this guys because £84 a month is hefty in anyones book !

Are they working from estimated readings?
First thing read your meters and phone the readings in, then you will be able to find out what your arrears are.
I would have thought that if you were paying by direct debit BG would have adjusted what you pay in line with prices/consumption.That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
I pay mine by DD too. I think mine is reviewed once a year, and it gets adjusted then. I'm not with British Gas though.
Haven't you noticed your statements were a lot higher than what you were paying? You must be in debit with them. Do you know by how much because that will have to be paid off too?0 -
im with powergen and i was paying 60 pound a month for gas and electricityfor 3 years, no problem,
then march i had a bill for over 300 pound:eek:
so now i have upped it myself to 90 a month , and there saying its got to be upped to 125 to clear the balance, i dont understand how the comsuption, or price rise can increase that much!debt jan 07 21000, debt june 07 17630,

Our suppliers, Southern Electric also want us to pay £80 each for gas and Leccy. We were paying about £30 3 years ago when we started. Ive phoned them to say we cant afford it so they have have dropped the payments down to £51 and £60 respectively.
If you phone them and say you cant afford it you can reduce it. We are still an arrears so must use a lot of gas and leccy although I make every effort to reduce consumption.Just owe Dad £2500 for a new car

Paid off car loan 22nd August 2009. :T0 -
I know everyone complains that prepayment meters are more expensive but I'm glad it avoids all these problems. You put in £20, if you use it up, the electricity stops working
No surprises that way as you can check how much money is left on the meter whenever you want and go top it up.working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

snap! i'm in the same situation, paid £68 for 3 years now they want £242 per month and say we have owe £600!! I agree why are they not informing people if there payments are not matching their consumption?? Energy watch advised that if they have been providing accurate bills but continuing charging us £68 then i may have a case. i've written to BG and given them 10 working days, before i will refer everything to energy watch. in particular if you look at the 'code of practice' on the BG website, it says that 'your bill will go through a process where any unusually high/low usage will be noticed before your bill is sent out'. this is obviously not happening.
Please let me know how you get on.0
