Solicitor needs draft Insurance document

My solicitor has sent me a letter saying that she will require a copy of a draft agreement of the insurance for buildings cover before my purchase can go through.

Now to try and cut a long story short. I called the insurance company ( who are also the mortgage lender) and they quoted me more than a £100 extra than if I had done it online. They told me the quote would last for 90 days and gave me a reference.
Do you know when applying for home insurance online if you get the draft document the solicitor requires for the mortgage provider?.

I have aged about 20 years in the last month :D

I don't think I've ever been asked for a draft copy of buildings insurance when buying a property, though like you, my insurer has been one & the same company as my lender, (Halifax).

I've only recently changed insurance providers due to a move & was sent all documentation by email in the first instance & then some days later through the post. I hope this helps.

By the way, I do hope you've gone for the cheaper online quote rather than the higher one given over the phone? Lots of people get caught out like this & for a few years I used to my insurance online to get a cheaper renewal quote than Halifax offered me via post, by simply cancelling the policy & going online to take out a new one with them as you got bigger discounts online.

But then Halifax cottoned on to this kind of thing & put a stop to you being able to do it online once it recognised your post code & you had to phone for a quote instead, which of course didn't give you the same discount as applying online would.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

Thanks for the response Cattie, I have not gone for any of them yet. But my only concern is that with the over the phone quote I have a reference. Where as with the online quote I don't know if I will get anything. I just hope that I could speak to them on the phone and get it for the online price that is quoted.

    Do the standard online searches/comparisons.

Select your preferred insurere, basedon both price AND cover offered.

Print off the quote, and download a copyof thepolicy document.

    Send to Solicitor.

When solicitor rings and advises you "We are Exchanging today", go online and commence cover.
