Job Seekers Allowance and Part Time Work help

Hi
I am currently on job seekers allowance and receive the lowest amount (£56 a week - I think) and have recently been made an offer to do bank work. I have tried to ask in my job centre for advice but they never seem to give me a straight answer so I am hoping someone here can help me.
With the bank work I am not guaranteed hours and because I have to complete a set number of hours before I can get put on the payroll, I won't get my first salary until August (end of).
I think I am right in saying I cannot work over 16 hours a week while continuing to claim JSA and if I did work up to this number I would earn considerably more than my JSA allowance for that week.
I've been told that I would still receive money on the weeks that I would sign and that I would then not receive JSA once I had received my pay in August - is this correct?
What would happen though if I wanted to sign off in the meantime having worked some hours / received JSA but not received my wage? Would I then have to pay back money to the job centre that I potentially wouldn't have at that point?
Or if I get to August having earnt potentially 15 hours worth of wages for the weeks between now and then, there is going to be a fair few weeks where I do not receive anything from JSA -which is fine - but again if I signed off would I still then owe them money?
I would be very grateful for any help / advice.
