Hi I am a newbie to the site and at 44 yrs old am hopeless with money - decided to start cutting bk this week to hopefully save for my first ever holiday abroad next year...... Anyway I had £25.00 to spend on some sunglasses this week and have managed to put that as my first deposit into my savings tin..... Found a voucher in August Essentials magazine for a free pair from BHS - yes, totally FREE!! I am cutting back on all the non-essential crap & goodies i always pick up in the supermarket and walking instead of taking the bus/taxi. Also all those coffees i buy when out and about surely add up so taking my own to save on them too.......i'm hoping to have £1000 by mid July 2014, which shoukd be enough for a few new dresses for the holiday and some spending money.........wish me luck:j

Good luck!! Sounds like you've got the savings bug already!!
So, I have a confession - OH and I are completely ADDICTED to travel - all our money goes on new experiences and places!
My Nan once told me "Make memories not excuses" and I promised that I would forever live by her mantra... :A
We've just paid £1000 towards an extended-family holiday to Egypt in October, where me and Dad will be teaching my nephews to scuba dive after successfully converting my OH and my brother last yearso are back to square one with our own holiday pot...:o
We are aiming to go on an adventure tour of Sri Lanka, hopefully next year - but to do this we will need to save around £5,000
I've done a lot of reading and it seems the best time of year for us to go is April (Easter school hold as OH is a teacher) as this time of year is best to see the elephants in the national parks and the Blue Whales on the coast! We can also do a trek to one of the most famous Buddhist monasteries if we go in April...
So, all this to look forward to - but only 8 months to save!!!
We've already made a pact that instead of Christmas and Birthdays we will put aside the money we would have spent on "stuff" and instead put it in an envelope marked with an experience for the holiday - so for example, £20 buys an elephant ride, £50 buys a day scuba diving, £10 buys or first 'real' Sri Lankan curry etc etc.we've asked family to do the same and made a list of things we'd love to do in a range of prices, from meals to safaris, so they can pick a gift rather than just give cash - they think its a fab idea!! :T
Saving will start big time in September, as we are off to Cornwall next month for 10 days surfing!
For now, I have been skimming my current account of a couple of quid and the odd pennies each day. I also won £35 on a work sweepstake for Andy Murray winning Wimbledon... So that's gone straight in... So, we're on a grand total of £55... 1% of the target!!
Think we will have to get eBaying and working as much overtime as I can get my hands on!! Any other ideas would be gratefully received!!!
Good luck on your own savings mission lovelies!! Lets hope we can keep each other motivated and ticking over to achieve our goals!!!:T DEBT FREE AS OF APRIL 2013! :T"I am the master of my fate. I am the captain of my soul"0 -
Hi ShootForTheMoon & pixiedust09 - great to see you over here!
My attention was grabbed by Kindle1968- Same age as me! Hi Kindle!
ShootForTheMoon - Thats a great mantra to live by. Mines similar. I believe more in experience than posessions. Its memories that last. That present idea is a good one. I always think spending on things at xmas is over rated.Back on the trains again!0 -

Good luck! You are right when you said that it is better late than never. I just would like to suggest that you invest on something that will give you profit. Time savings deposit is a good choice since you are planning to save until the end of next year. :beer:Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature.
