6000rpm reversing off the drive every morning.. Poor car..

But that is not the problem the OP reported.

That isn't a problem though that you responded to. That's a potential cause of the problem.
The OP only mentioned the clutch failed.

It could either be a manufacturing defect or down to poor driving.
You can wreck a clutch in the space of a few minutes if you really wanted.

I've seen a few people reversing out of car parks with the engines at 4000+rpm, riding the clutch and smoke pouring out the gearbox.

OAPs bless em, they think that in reverse gear you have to rev the nuts off it.

Again, we don't know the cause of the failure. Only what the failure is. i.e the clutch has failed and it's in bits.

It might be in bits through abuse, for all we know.

    Exactly.

A lot of modern cars seem to be a lot less forgiving if driven badly. If the garage check the flywheel they will get a good idea if it's been down to poor clutch control or not.

£500 for a new clutch? Tell 'em they're dreamin'!

My wife's shopping buggy C5 2.0HDi DMF died last week (it was a slow and painful/noisy process), 95K miles.

New clutch kit (clutch disc, pressure plate, bearing), new DMF + bolts, wheel alignment (they had to drop the subframe) £493 all in, and it took 4 hours. Non-franchised garage, OEM parts (LUK).
