WTC Question ...

Hello all ...

Was wondering if somebody could shed some light on my lack of knowledge about Working Tax Credits.

A month ago a work colleague of mine told me I would be entitled to Working Tax Credit, I know nothing about it apart from bits and bobs I have read online.

Basically, I'm 22 and I work part time as a support worker in an educational establishment, I have no children and I work roughly 20 hours a week. I receive DLA due to a heart condition - I receive low rate care and low rate mobility. I receive no other benefit.

I did fill in a form for Working Tax Credits, I filled it in to the best of my ability using correct figures. However, I sent this of two weeks ago and haven't heard anything back.

I was just wondering if anybody roughly would know how long they normally take to respond and even if somebody could maybe calculate if I were to get Working Tax Credit how much the weekly payments would be.

Thank you.
Emmy.

The OP said they get DLA. Most likely will qualify for the disability element. So yes, they would qualify.

    Missed that bit.
  • Reply from TC can take up to 3 weeks from receiving the new claim.

As for how much you may receive, as IQ asked, it would depend on your income.

Unless its changed recently, as a single person you used to have to be working 30 hours and be pretty close to minimum wageto get WTC.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Not changed recently, but you can work less hours when in receipt of DLA

    OK here's the link

    http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/tc956.pdf

You will qualify for working tax credit if you are receiving DLA and working a minimum of 16 hours.

Just to add the age bit

If you are not responsible for a child or qualifying young person you can claim Working Tax Credit if you or your partner (if you have one) are:

aged 25 or over and work at least 30 hours a week

aged 16 or over, work at least 16 hours a week and qualify for the disability element of Working Tax Credit, or

aged over 60 and work at least 16 hours a week.

You can also put your details in the tax credit calculator which will provide an estimate of entitlement - as others have said can take a few weeks for the claim to be processed.
