Is my Fiesta ok to drive?

I have recently purchased a second hand 1.2 Fiesta LX, and have noticed it is chugging, particularly when driving at a constant speed, although not really losing power or speed. My mechanic says it is just in need of a service and new plugs. Does this sound right?
Until this is done will it be ok to drive on the motorway? The last thing I want is to breakdown in rushhour M60 traffic!!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, cheers :D

Hi VictoriaJ - if the car hasn't been serviced recently this does have the ring of truth. Apart from the convenience aspect, breaking down will cost you loads and the M60 is a bad bad place to break down so I'd spend the money and have the car serviced.

Your mechanic is very likely right, overdue for a service is the most likely cause ~ won't know for certain till it's done, but it should be done anyway by the sound of it. And I agree with you both, motorway breakdowns are not to be relished!

It's very lonely on the hard shoulder, I didn't appreciate my RAC membership until I sat on the crash barrier for an hour in January!

I was alone with my thoughts on how lucky I was to have managed to get a bike with no power from lane 3, whilst losing speed through 3 lanes of traffic and stopped safely on the hard shoulder.

Go and buy a haynes manual. A plug, filter and oil change isn't that difficult and should cost you £60 maximum.

I agree with you in principle. But for folks who find changing a light bulb challenging, maybe better to let professionals do the servicing ~ cars can be very dangerous things if worked on inexpertly.
