£6000 balance transfer

Hi everyone,

I hope there are some good souls out there who may be able to answer my query.

I currently have a Halifax card with a balance of £5900 (on a £6500 limit). I have spent money on adult education and home improvements over the last year, but I'm now desperate to get this card paid off. A few months ago I missed a payment by 3 days, so I know this has damaged me to a degree.

It's fair to say my finances are stretched at the moment (but no-where near breaking point), and will be for the next 24 months; I'm only paying £50 over the minimum payment each month because of this.

I really want to transfer to a 0% balance card. I have been told by Barclay Card that I have a good chance of getting their 27 month 0% balance transfer card, which sounds great.

My question is this...

It says that this offer is based on the assumption that my balance is £1200. Obviously I'm way above this. Is there a high chance I will be rejected if i apply for this card with the size of the balance i currently have?

Thank you, and I hope to be around here more often picking up tips.

What's most important is does the fact you were late three months ago actually appear on your credit file?

Barclaycard often give out high limits, a friend of mine was given a £8,400 limit, my OH £6,700, and my unemployed single mum friend, £4,000 (There's responsible lending for you).

But don't go applying until you know whether the late payment shows up. If it does hold off until you've got a row of six green zeroes since the late payment before applying.

This is a standard amount which most (all?) card companies use for illustrative purposes. Check out some other offers and you'll see.

  • I've just checked and I've got a sea of green dots.

Thank you for the speedy reply, I'm going to apply for this card. The thought of paying £100 interest every month is making me sick, and knowing I have a good chance of getting rid of this debt is a good feeling.

    Thanks again

Don't apply now though as you mightn't get an instant decision

    Try the pre-application checker first:

And if it says you have a good chance with the platinum balance transfer card go for it but wait until after 6:00 AM until after the credit reference agency systems are back online :o
