Dying router?

working routers and machines have wireless problems all the time, a rogue microwave can cause dropouts, amongst many other things
it's highly unlikely to be a router fault that has suddenly developed and only affects wireless, like most electrical equipment, they usually work a long long time and rarely fail completely!!

Since they're about a fiver on eBay, or probably free from PN if you're out of minimum term, I wouldn't hesitate to change it.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

An inexpensive thing to try is just get new adsl filters. My connection has been affected TWICE by failing filters.
If you search in Amazon UK for 'Broadband filter' there is a pack of four 'World of Data' adsl filters for £6.99 inc free delivery.
p.s. If you change one and it works, then chuck the old one out rather than putting it back in a drawer as a 'maybe'.
Also remember to put a filter on every phone socket in use by anything. You can lose a loose goose.
You cannot loose a lose goose.
Get it? Now use it before you lose it.

Over the last few weeks or months, the wifi performance has become increasingly unreliable. ....... I'm now in the study with an ethernet cable, which is working fine.
I think the connection itself is fine, just the wireless that is the problem so filters are probably not an issue for the OP.0 -

You're - [STRIKE]probably[/STRIKE] - [STRIKE]quite[/STRIKE] - absolutely right. I did see the mention of the ethernet cable working ok - but then promptly forgot it.
Having some spare filters about the place is a good idea anyway though I reckon, as your ISP is usually going to suggest at some point that the current filter(s) might be faulty whenever you contact them with a problem.
(Trying to save face here of course - sigh!)You can lose a loose goose.
