Hi
My OH bought a car two years ago from our car mechanic. OH then received a letter from VOSA saying the car had been written off according to their records, and that we needed to take it to one of their test centres for a vehicle identification test. (car mechanic didn't know about it - he was taking off someone's hands :-) )
It passed the test, all matched up so everything is good.
OH now wants to sell the car on ebay. Does he need to mention this info in the ad?
If someone does a vehicle check (they may not as car is 10 years + old), would it come up as marking the car as dodgy?

Not dodgy, Cat C. You don't need to mention it, but you can't tell fibs if asked.0

It will come up as what it is - an insurance write off thats been put back on the road.
It would be a grey area not to declare it, but morally i would. In fact morally i do. Any i've sold that have previously been written off i put in the advert 'on VCAR as Cat C from (date) however has been driven for X years since and is being sold having just passed an MOT with no problems.'
Wont impact the value much, but i think its better being honest about it.0 -
legally traders need to declare it, private sellers don't unless asked.
Morally I would declare particularly as it won't have much impact on a car that old0 -
thank you. We will say it is cat c with a brief explanation.0
