what benefits would i get?

i'm currently working, live in my mortgaged property, but job is an absolute nightmare right now and it would not surprise me if i was suspended/made redundant/quit in the next few months.

what i'd like to know is where i'd stand if i do find myself out of work?

1. can i claim for mortgage interest payments?
2. does it matter if i have any equity in the property?
3. council tax help?
4. jsa - this is the basic living expenses right?
5. does the reason for leaving the last job affect anything?
6. if i got a lodger in would income be offset against any claims?

If anyone can help that would be great!

    1. possibly - this will be dependent on your circumstances - check the gov.uk website for the most up to date info.
    2. As number 1.
    3. You may be eligible dependent on income and whether you receive JSA
    4. If you quit, its unlikely you will get JSA - it is there for people who have lost their job, not decided they don't want to work anymore.
    5. YES! This is pretty much one of the most important questions. You can get sanctioned for up to 3 years.
    6. Bit of a grey area - it would affect income based benefits, but possibly not contribution based benefits - would have to check with benefits office. Also you will be liable to pay tax if over a certain amount, I think its around £4k.

If you are either sacked or you leave your job, you are highly likely to be sanction for a number of weeks. Only if you could provide a reasonable explanation for either of these circumstances could this be lifted.

Yes, they do make contact with your previous company.
