Why would the image be 25MB? A typical camera image might be 1-4Mb, depending on the camera res. So you could still send about 6 pics at once, depending on the email limit of both the sender and the recipient. If both using Gmail, the limit is 25MB as already stated.
It isn't a Gmail or W8 issue,it's simply a matter of your son reducing the images down to an acceptable size before sending them-that can be done in any graphics program. If they're purely for screen display, then 72dpi is all you need.
If larger files are required then you need to use an FTP based system such as Dropbox. But first you need to sort out your line speed, which is the real issue.

For what it is worth, I have just used an online broadband speed tester. It states, 62.2 megabytes for download. 2.8 megabytes for upload. Can't see if that is for a minute, hour or possibly month!

If it was speedtest.net then that is 65mbps (million bits per second) ie about 7 million bytes per second.

Probably megabits per second so 8 megabytes per second theoretical download rate.

If this is a regular thing you could all use something like a shared Flickr account and just upload the pictures instead? Might not be practical for you but just a thought.

This is how my family members tend to communicate. We have a joint photobucket account, although we are thinking of moving to another site because photobucket has become rather slow. Most of us have a social media page though, so we don't have to worry much about sharing things..

Can I assume that the speed test results, if accurate are perfectly reasonable then?
