Are my Problems Linked?

Options
Ever since I installed Norton Antivirus 2005 I get a message at PC Start Up saying "Windows Installer - Norton Antivirus 2005 does not support the Repair feature. Please uninstall and re-install."

Up until now I have just clicked on the OK box and ignored it. However, I am trying to install new Video (VCR) Capture Software and I am getting a message that it cannot find the software. I am wondering if the two problems are linked. My questions are:

1 If I uninstall and re-install Norton Antivirus will it affect my current subscription which began in February?

2 Do you think that this is the cause of the Video Softfare problem (CameraMate VideoSafe - which is not supported by Microsoft.)

Does anyone have any advice for me?

  • Have to agree with MS....sounds like an msi.32 error. The download he has given should solve this. but for all those coming after you asking the same thing, please post if it works.
I haven't been asked to tell you that I'm the Board Drunk for this board. As the night wears on, my posts will become worse, with simple spelling mistakes, inane ramblings, and a blatant disregard for the truth. I have no authority to do anything, so there's no point asking or telling me. If you see me past midnight, please tell me to get my coat and order me a taxi.

  • I forgot to say that I use Windows XP. Anyway thanks for your replies. I followed your advice but when I tried to install Windows Installer it warned me it was the wrong OS. I searched for Windows Installer for XP and downloaded the files at this link

Unfortunately it hasn't worked. Did I use the correct link for XP?

Can you suggest anything else I could try, or should I just uninstall NAV?
  • Thanks Mr Skint. Finally got problem resolved. Removed NAV and then re-installed it. Seems to be no problem with my subscription and the error message about NAV not supporting Repair function has gone.

I have now managed to load my Video Capture Software. But am now getting an error message to say "Capture format doesn't match PAL VCD and will be scaled to fit!".

Don't suppose you have got any solutions to this new problem?

I'm still running NAV 2003 but I find that it's much safer to turn it off before installing programs

Thanks for advice. I'm going to do that in the future.
