Car and Vanquis

!!!!!!! Oh, these things come to try us...

The car needs a new exhaust fitting I don't get paid 'til month end.
My Vanquis limit is low (£250) but my fourth statement will be issued in the next 4 days.

Looking online, my limit hasn't been increased and whilst I am very grateful to Vanquis to help me re-build my credit, I would like them to consider me for an increase.

I'm not going to ring up and ask them for a limit increase (don't want to jinx anything) but wondered, those who have had an increase to their limit, was it on the date of the fourth statement, before or after the statement was issued.

Otherwise, I won't be driving till the end of the month, when I get paid .

Usually the increases are after every 6 months, they occur about 10 days after your statement date,
  • They send you a letter a month before the increase. I received a letter just after my 4th statement, increase just after the 5th.

Thanks Guys... looks like I'll have to wait till month end for the exhaust.

I was hoping for earlier tigerfeet2006 but if that's the case, then so be it.
I'm grateful for Vanquis giving me a start after BR.

You shouldn't need to rely on your credit card for wear and tear on your car, you should build this into your budget and have money set aside.

If you don't have enough to set money aside for the car, you can't afford the car and are starting on the high road to another insolvency.

All that aside you should never ever ever use a sub prime card to borrow money, it should only ever be used to pay for things you already have the money in the bank for and paid in full each month, the APR is not acceptable for spreading the cost of anything.

Believe me, I've been down the BR route and got the t-shirt, you don't want to re-start old habits so quickly.

I will respect what your saying but the cost of the repair was more than the £50 per month I've been saving since January discharge.

I've been paying my Vanquis off each time I use it and the same as with my JD Williams account. I am not relying on the credit card, merely wanting to use it until month end and my salary plus bonus is paid.

Making such assumptions when you do not know me, my history, my financial affairs is a little rude and may put some people off from posting in these forums.

I have not taken my bankruptcy lightly, especially when I had the rug pulled from under me, again you would only know about if you knew me.

My assumption was based on you saying that you couldn't pay for it unless Vanquis increased your limit which suggested you don't indeed have the readies in your bank account to pay for the exhaust - which you don't.

Ergo, if Vanquis did increase your limit, and you used the card to pay for your exhaust, you wouldn't be able to clear it in full. If you were able to clear it in full with the exhaust on it, you would be able to get it done now anyway and just pay cash.

I appreciate my post might have been a bit sharp but I stand by it; if you've been saving £50 / Month since January you should be able to get the exhaust done unless it's an expensive car. Shop around, look for parts on eBay or a scrapper and find a cheaper indie to do the work, I reckon you'll be able to afford it no problem then :o

    50 x 7 = 350

    Discharge end Jan
    First saving £50 Feb = £250
Cost of full exhaust (front box, cat and back box) = £312 plus labour
Discrepancy £82.00 savings to cost hence the difference to Vanquis card until salary and bonus end of month, then completely paid off.

Unfortunately I know very little about cars and put my faith in the mechanics.
This quote was the cheapest of three - Kwik Fit being very expensive.
