British Airways Avios/AMEX offer

Hi,

BA is currently offering two different AMEX credit cards with bonus Airmiles (now called Avios) depending on which one you get. The higher bonus one has whopping APRs and a £150 per year fee, but I was wondering if it would be legal to take the card, redeem the points, (paying off the card in full each month of course), and then cancel after 3 months. This would potentially leave me with enough points for 2 return flights to Marrakech, and enough left over for one flight to Berlin, all for £150....

Could they revoke the Avios points afterwards? I don't see anything in the T&Cs...

Perfectly fine to do so. They'd even refund you the annual fee pro-rata.

That is allowed under the T&Cs and they will refund your membership fee pro rata, just be aware that avios availability is limited and it may be difficult to get flights when you want.

The APR although high takes into account the fee so it is not a true reflection of what you pay, you actually pay 18.9% interest on the outstanding balance.

There is a 2 4 1 voucher at £10,000 spend which is a bonus for big spenders as it gives 2 avios flights for the price of one.
Make £10 a day challenge in Feb £325.82/£280
    March £78/£310

Thanks all - not sure I can manage to spend £10,000 on a card in the time required, but some of the other 'bonuses' might be achievable!

It's £10,00 spend in a year for the 2-4-1 voucher. Used properly this can be worth quite a lot of money (a couple of thousand depending on how many avios you have to burn).

Go to the blog called head for points. It explains everything really clearly

Then when you have digested that go to flyertalk
  • If you don't think you'll make the £10k for the 2-4-1 voucher, have you thought about the Gold card instead? Not quite so many points (20,000 MR points or 22,000 if you are referred) but the card is free for the first year.

MR points can then be exchanged to avios at a rate of 1/1 or you can send them to other loyalty programs.

It's a good deal, 22,000 avios for effectively nothing.

Amex website suggests you only get 9k avios for the standard BA Amex sign up offer?
    I think....

I'm not talking about the BA Amex but the Amex Gold. It's fee free for the first year and you van convert the MR points to avios.
