Cheapish hotel in London

Can anyone recommend a cheap ish hotel or rooms in September. We have got to take little boy to Great Ormond Street for 1030!! Even though we only live 65 miles away, to get there for that time will be hard work. It is in congestion charge zone as well.

We were looking to stay the night before.

Hi, Great Ormond Street is in a area called Bloomsbury(Try a hotel search). There are plenty of B+B in this area, or you could try the travelodge at Euston station or the ones around Kings cross station.
For a bit more money there is a Holiday inn about a 5 min walk at Russell square.

The is also the Imperial London Hotels group which has 6 hotels in that area prices start at £90.

Try asking GOSH they must have this on a regular basis so may be able to make some recommendations

I rather like The Thanet which is in Bloomsbury. It's a family hotel, non-chain, rooms are small but it's well maintained and friendly, and you get the option of smoked salmon with scrambled eggs for breakfast. There are some decidedly less classy places in the same area as well, so don't just plump for the cheapest option. Your mileage may vary, as they say in car ads.

if you are planning on driving (as you mention the congestion charge) it may be cheaper and easier to stay at a hotel outside London and get the train in. I don't know where you are coming from but for example if you are driving down the M1 you could look at staying at the Holiday Inn In Watford as it is beside the train station and the fast train from there to Euston takes 20 minutes. The hotel has parking for £3 per day (free between 5.30pm to 8.30pm) or the train station next door has parking. There are a few Premier Inn's not far away.

I've never stayed here, but seen the hotel on my way to work and always thought that if I needed to stay overnight, I'd give it a try. It's about 5 minutes walk from Euston, heading towards Great Ormond Street. I believe they advertise a double / twin for £64 with breakfast.

This group has a number of hotels in the Russell Square area, a short walk from GOSH. I've stayed there in the past; not luxurious, but a good standard of cleanliness and functionality.

I recently stayed at the Mitre House Hotel in Paddington, £75 per night including cooked breakfast if booked online, unusually for this area it has a car park. It was okay, despite the weather being unusually high - no air conditioning or fans. Ask not to be placed on the 4th floor, rooms and windows are smaller - on the second night was moved to 2nd floor, which was much better. It is clean, shower was good and it is in a good location.
