Hello

I have just moved into a new house which is part of a small close of about 30 house none of which are connected to gas, all the streets around us are, so I have no idea why we're not.

I have spoken to a few people, and some have said if the whole street, or at least the whole of my row say they want a connection we can get it for free...

Does anyone know anything about this? I know its cheaper the more who connect, but free sounds a bit to good!

Any ideas?

Bex

I work for ng gas, you won't get it for free no matter how meny people connect. You can have what you call a infill, this is were they quote for the whole street but split the cost between each house.
Also depennding on the area of the country you live NG gas may not now cover your area.
NG Don't cover any of these areas any more.
Scotland, Wales, most of south england & south west or west and north west england.

Call Energy watch to find out who now covers your area 08459 06 07 08

Be very carefull i am in the same boat and have just been quoted £10.000  by the national grids sister company fulcrum. They will need to come 40 ish metres from the mains to the close, I can ask my neighbours to join in but i was informed by Fulcrum I will need to pay the full amount and then get the money off my neighbours, its a joke it cost nothing to put in the pipe and it is another example of corporate companies sqeezing dosh out of us!!!! for us it is not worth it we are left with realy expensive, old and ugly storage heating. good luck

Also worth noting that you don't have to go to the Gas Transporter that owns the network in your area.

There are other Independant Gas Transporters and UIP's (Utility Infrastructure Providers) that can provide gas supplies anywhere in the country. For a list of companies this is a good site to start at:- http://www.lloydsregister.co.uk/scheme_search.php?searchForm=1&mode=girs&scheme[]=1
