What's the item? I think there is a page on Ebay which shows the most popular categories (I'm sure some one here will find it out for you), but that's no good if your item doesn't fit the category!
Do a search for the type of item you wish to sell including completed sales that should give you an idea. You can place the item in more than one category, but that adds to the listing fee, but may be worth doing.

where an item is listed is not as important as how. Get the title right, and people will find it.

Yeah, what he said!
 I've started to wonder if paying 2 x listing fees for two categories is really worth it, because if you get the right catchy words in the title, I think THAT drags a lot more people in that just the ones who browse the categories.

Buy a Skoda. Laugh at the VWs who paid several grand more
Its a diesel. 50mpg - laugh at all the petrols
Its a tuned 260bhp diesel - laugh at them in the rearview mirror as they vanish

I agree with the previous 2 posts, get the title right and you've got a winner. The last item I sold had over 550 hits and over 35 watchers, and it went for far more than other similiar items listed at the same time, and to be honest got more than I expected in a particular speciality I know well.
Getting the auction end time also makes a big difference, the popular end times seem to be Tues, Thurs, Sat & Sun evenings (Sun being the most), but again depends on the item. When would you look if you wanted to buy such an item?0 -

Well..... If you were selling say, a CD copy of Kevin Rowlands album The Wanderer, you could put it in any category you wanted and folk would find it.

indeed.
But sometimes I do wonder... The item I currently have a "monopoly" on is always listed in two categories, but because I've perfected/edited the title to see what's best, I now have the ultimate relist.
So, I'm thinking of perhaps removing it from one of the categories I stick it in, and save myself 30p.... Trouble is I'm always suckered in by that "second category normally means extra __% price" thing they put on!
By the way - the only CD I could find you mention was in Austria - none in the Uk at all by the looks of it! :j :jMoney saving:

That would possibly be the case. It's one of the many hard to find CD's that were produced when CDs were new to the market, at the time when Cassettes were popular. Thus, very few were produced (mainly in Europe) and if they weren't overly popular, they were never re-released on CD later on.
