Help in choosing laptop for 11year old.

Options
I will be purchasing a new laptop in the next couple of months for my 11 year old son, who will be starting secondary school in september and was hoping somebody, would be able to recommend one or two.

I have a budget of £380-£400, but may be able to stretch a little bit more, but would be fantastic if the laptops were less.
Thanks.

A bit much to spend on a laptop for an 11 year old, unless he needs it for gaming. Then age doesn't come into it. :)

If no gaming, you can pay as little as £200. If gaming, it would help to know which games for a start.

    Lenovo ThinkPad E535

    Acer Aspire Timeline Ultra M3-581TG

    ASUS K55A

Thinkpad would generally have better quality. quad core, and with dedicated GPU.

Acer with good dedicated graphic card such that it would be good if he want to play game. Although it only got i3 dual core CPU, its SSD drive and 10GB RAM will boost the performance.

Asus has fastest CPU, but integrated GPU not suitable for gaming.

Personally would go for Lenovo thinkpad

Thanks for the replies guys. It won`t be used for gaming, just studies, The laptops you suggest Cisco, look great, but if he is not using it for games, would you be able to suggest a cheaper alternative. Your help is very much appriciated.

Will you consider refurb from Dell/ Argos ebay?

    I personally won't go below intel i3.

Hi Cisco, yes i`d consider a refurb, as it`s only for my 11 year old.

Bit of a pointless statement don't you think? Personally I wouldn't stay in a house without a seaview, but what does that have to do with the OP?
    At least qualify your statement.

Personally, I run most things on my four year old Dual Core Celeron without problems.
Why would the 11 year old need an i3 or above?

Thanks alot guys for the input, I will have a look on the website you have linked Cisco and the refurb shops, youv`e suggested.

Thinking about it, maybe my budget was alittle too high for him, for what he needs and maybe go down to £200-£300 instead.

    Thanks again to everyone.

    **Thanks Cycrow for the link**

As I said, it is a 'PERSONAL' thing!
I just can't stand for slow PC, and That is.

A laptop should last for at least 4+ years. In best case scenario, I would just hope the laptop last for another 6 - 7 years, such that change it when her son go to university/ college. I just not sure if celeron run smoothly after 5 years.

On the other hand, although her son not playing game right now. You would never know if he want to play game when he meet new friends. You don't want your child keep complaining the machine not able to play game 2 year down the line, then you need though about spending another £400 at that time.

And you know what teenage boy like, if they come to a stage they got so frustrate with the slow machine, they will find ways to 'kill' it!

If he will be using it primarily at home, you may also consider a larger screen. DELL Outlet have a similar machine with a 17.3" screen for under £300.
Argos Outlet will be back online later. Laptops with second gen i3 processors can often be had from £250.
