Santander 123 current account

Hi,

I have a basic account and an instant plus account with Santander and went into my bank this morning to sort out a direct debit and was asked if I would like to upgrade to a current account.

My issue is this:

I tried to upgrade 6 months ago and had no direct debits set up and was declined due to my credit .

Since then I have 3 direct debits set up that I have been paying for the last 5-6 months and wondered if I am setting myself up for a fall again by applying for this current account but wondered if the advisor has offered this option if it may be different now?

What 'fall' did you have in mind? If you have been offered an upgrade, and you want the account, it seems to be a no-brainer?

I take it you are aware that the account costs £2/mth, and that you would like to have it for the DD cashback?

I meant would Santander credit check me all over again only for me to fail again as the advisor does not know my credit history or will it be dependant on the way I have run my account/s with them?

I don't know whether they require a credit check for the upgrade - you need to ask them. I would expect that if they offer me an upgrade that their system has prompted them to do so.

Unfortunately, as the Basic and Instant Plus are not "full" current accounts they cannot be upgraded like other Santander bank accounts.

Other accounts can be converted to the 123 without a credit check and retain the same sort code, account number and card.

You will have to open a new account and all the rigmarole that involves and will be credit checked.

crikey, I never knew Santander had so many current accounts!

I had somehow assumed that they had offered the OP a 123, but on re-reading the thread, seems I was wrong there.

I wonder what offer exactly they made to the OP when they asked whether the OP would like to upgrade to a current account.

Possibly historic rubbish they inherited from A&L or Abbey National; I had a dormant account appear after the A&L takeover which A&L themselves had no record of in branch (yet I knew was still in existence). I took my 13p and closed it!

But my experience with that backs what ses stated, Santander wouldn't upgrade it to something useful (I opened it when I was 13/14), I had to close it and apply as a new customer to get my 123.
