But for a lottery, where odds are fixed and the outcome of the draw is not affected by external influences, why would they refuse to refund or modify tickets for a draw several days in advance?

    How are the odds fixed?
Yes you have a 1 in 13 chance of winning the euromillions.
The odds of what you will win on any given winning line depends on how many tickets are sold and how many entries match the same quantity of numbers as you.

Outcome is affected by external influences....
Every time it rolls over more people buy tickets in the hope of winning.

More people that buy the more you win on given numbers being pulled out.

It depends how you consider the odds. As you've described, the odds of winning an exact sum of money - say £100,000 - is most definitely affected by external influences. But if you just consider the odds of matching 5 balls, then the odds do not change.

Either way, I still think they should implement a mechanism to cancel or amend digital lottery tickets providing the draw is more than x number of days away and the purchase was made less than y hours ago....

Why does everyone push for the lowest common denominator?

I can understand buying 1 lottery ticket, 2 at a push but 8 a fool and his money.
