Letting agent withholding rent repayment

After a bit of advice - We moved out of our rented property back in May mid way through the month and were therefore owed back the outstanding rent for the days we weren't in the property (new tenants also moved in so they have had additional rent for the property).

We've had excuses after excuses and to date we are STILL waiting for our repayment. Communication isn't one of their strong points and rather than actually be helpful they do their utmost to avoid having any level of conversation with us to explain.

Anyone been in this situation before/have any recommendations for next course of action?

Thank you!

Are you talking about your deposit?
Have you requested it in writing?

Nope, had the deposit back. We paid our rent a month in advance so as we moved out mid month we are owed money back for the days we weren't living there. We have everything in writing from them so they are well aware what they need to do just nothing seems to happen!!

Yeah I think that's going to be the next step if they continue to ignore us. They've had everything by email (no response) so I have little hope they'll look at a letter as well but we can try!

until you send an actual letter (and retain free certificate of postage from the PO), they are well within their rights to claim they haven't received any communication from you.

In the shady world of letting agents, email is for informal communications only...

Ooh I didn't know that - thanks for bringing to my attention. Good job I do have a trail of some sort in case they played that card though. It is indeed a shady world, put me off renting for life this whole experience has.

Will get a letter in the post immediately!

You are not "owed" anything, unless there was a prior agreement to make you a payment.

    1) yourletter should be sent to the Landlord, at the address provided to you "for the serving of notices". This is usually on your tenancy agreement. It may be c/o the agent, but that is who/where you must write.

    2) Did you move out on the final day of your Fixed Term?
If so, why did youpay extra rent?
If not, did you give thecorrect Notice (see here)?
Or did you agree an 'Early Surrender' and get this in writing?

There has been, they just aren't fulfilling their agreement that's where the frustration lies!
