Black & Decker Jigsaw - kaputt

Hi,
Just a bit of advice needed here please. Bought a Black & Decker Jigsaw in Jan 2006 from Homebase (£35), together with a set of blades (£15 approx).
At the time I needed the jigsaw for a specific job and it worked a treat. A few weeks ago I needed to use it a second time, and half way throught it simply cut out and stopped working.
I have now put my hands on the original receipt, and my intention is to go back to Homebase and get a replacement/refund since on the box it says it comes with a 2 year guarantee. Thank goodness for this, as I'm not impressed that it has stopped working after such light use.
I'm sure I have heard Martin say before that the warranty should be honoured by the retailer (not the manufacturer), since my contract is with them and not Black & Decker. I have the original box and receipt, so there should be no quibbling. Can anyone confirm this approach please?
Many thanks in advance,
Charles

Hi Charles
You may find that they try to refer you to the manufacturer for the 2nd year of the guarantee.
Stand firm and eplain that the way in which it failed makes you believe it was never fit for purpose or of merchendable quality.
They will refer you to their store manager who will be too overworked to argue with you and you will win the day.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -

You can often get good bargains on eBay, and if you are looking there, some people are still selling the GST2000 - now obsolete, but a very good machine.

If I'd known I was going to be so thirsty this morning I'd have drunk more beer last night.

I have a gst2000 and it is awesome.
Some tool sites still sell them.0 -
Grrrr - Store manager on duty at the time did try and refer me to the manufacturer, even when threatened with Trading Standards. So that's where I'll be going next.
Thanks for all the replies though.0 -
My Understanding:
The 2 year warranty is in addition to your statutory rights. It is provided by B&D as a service on their products and you have no right to insist the retailer honours this warranty.
You can have the item refunded/exchanged if you can prove it was faulty/mis-sold/unfit for purpose as is your normal statutory right. This may be hard to prove because of the time delay and hard to enforce as you have the option of a 2 year warranty to follow.0
