Second hand X-Box

I wonder if anyone could give me advice on the most reliable and cheapest way to get a second hand XBox -and which model I should look for to get the best bargain.
I've been given some Xbox 360 games, but nothing to play it on.
I dont have a reliable internet connection where I live (on a rubbish 2gb dongle) so can't do lots of 'download' stuff or XBox live..not so bothered about that. I would like however enough space to save games (prefer adventures/fantasty games so would need some hard disc space)
Also, is an Xbox a blu-ray player too (or is that the playstation)? Ive been into CEX but never sure of whether the price is a bargain?
Thanks fellow geeks!

The ps3 plays Blue rays the Xbox 360 doesnt.
Try Games like, Mass Effect, Fable, Elder scrolls series, which can be picked up very cheaply 2nd hand.
Edit: Watch out when you do get an Xbox, as it may need to download updates and if it does it will eat your dongle GB, perhpas when setting it up take it to a friends house to setup and ensure its all up to date.0 -
Xbox 360 doesnt play bluray - there was an addon for play HD Disks but that never really caught on.
Cheap and reliable do not really go together.
Xbox can use USb drives for storage (say if you were to go for the 4gb model and wanted to store more, that can be cheaper than the official harddrive). As it takes a lot of 'tweaking' to use a different sata hard drive instead (as generally locked to one manufacturer of drives).
If you go the preowned route (blockbuster , cex etc) then the warranty is the most important part.. otherwise if you get the RROD then its repair or Microsoft Fixed price repair \ replacement..0 -
Personally I wouldn't get anything other than one of the 'slim' Xbox 360 consoles as they're the only ones you can be fairly certain won't die on you (though of course absolutely anything electronic could just stop working one day). Take a good look at the new deals about as quite often they throw so much stuff in with a new console that it practically works out cheaper than a second hand console.0

look out here for when its back in stock, and maybe register for a stock alert as they do go in and out very quickly

The Arcade version runs with the newer Jasper chip and runs cooler with very few RROD, at £20 this is a bargain as a controller alone will set you back £20-25 you will prob have to buy a HDD but they are about £5-£10 second hand, you will know its a jasper chip by looking where you plug the power brick in, should say 12.1a, Pre owned from Game also have a 12 month warranty:beer:0 -
You can pick up a 250gb slimline xbox for around £100 - £120 they are very good, reliable, silent almost compared to the older xbox what sounded like firing up a rocket for launch, sometimes it woke up the kids with the fans spinning so hard.
Also, theres plenty of choice in games, some original xbox games can also be played on the 360.
My advice concerning internet for downloads is to get yourself a cheap android phone with a personal hotspot feature, then go for EE's network pay and go and buy £5 per month data, theyy won't cut you off if you go over the data limit it just slows down thats all, its more than enough to meet game download updates with, mine never fails.Owed out = lots. :cool:0 -
I got a 250gb xbox slim mint condition with skyrim thrown in at cash converters for £890

Watch out when you do get an Xbox, as it may need to download updates.
The OP said they were not bothered about live, if thats the case then theres no need to download updates as the games work fine as they are. If the OP isn't signed into Live then not being on the latest version won't matter.
Most updated are to tweat games, prevent piracy and cheating, it's only some such as Mass Effect 3 that made a difference to the gameplay.0 -
I bought my ps3 second-hand from CEX about a year and a half ago. It only slightly outlasted the one year warranty, then promptly conked out. Got it repaired, and less than six-months later it has died again. Almost makes me wish I'd sprung for a brand new one...almost. Having said that, my brother's 360 was bought second hand a couple of years before my ps3, and has only broken down once in that time (again, a long time later) so perhaps they're more reliable.
You need to figure out the minimum length of time you'd be happy with your investment lasting, and if it's a year then you're good to go.0 -

To be honest it's down to how much use (and abuse) they get, I've 2 xboxes, one an early one that Microsoft repaired the RROD on and a newer elite. After MS fixed the RROD one it's been fine, but then I only game for 5 hours a week at most, (unless there a new Halo game out when I'm on it till I finish it)0 -
We got our xbox from CEX, about £120 ish and with a years warranty, same as a new machine would be. The 250gb slim is the latest model, and probably the best to go for - plenty of room to download your games, plus any updates, reliable, quiet, a great console! You also get a years warranty on preowned at Game, so might be worth looking there too......0
