Council tax on derelict property?

This sounds obvious but is there any situation where you would have to pay council tax on a derelict empty property?
Say for example you were to get permission to put a mobile home next to it while you do it up.
You would then have to pay council tax on the mobile home, but not on the property until its finished and someone is living in there?

How derelict is the building?
Is it so derelict that it doesn't have a CT banding or just a bit derelict, so that it does?
If it doesn't have a banding then it remains CT exempt. If it does have a banding then the statutory (IIRC forever) CT exemption has been replaced by a council defined period of exemption.
The LA that I am living in offers 12 months, the one that I am (hopefully) moving to offers 6.

I cannot find it on any of those. I dont think anyone has been paying council tax on it for years.
But is there away to find out for sure is it exempt?0 -
you need to speak to you local council tax department.
They will advise you of the current situation regarding the house.
Do not assume that you will get a concession re the house being uninhabitable...we were lucky enough to be granted an exemption last year as the property we were renovating required major works...however in april this year the exemption was revooked by the council along with many other discounts and concessions not just on our property but on all properties in the area.
First check what your councils policy is as it is likely to have changed from april 2013.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
