Hi, hope some one can help,I have just looked at my XP security site and I have, switched on,firewall and automatic updates,I did have anti virus on,but it is now telling me "AVG anti virus 6.0 760 reports that it might be out of date" I have the AVG 6.0 free anti virus installed and it appears to be working, last auto run at 1pm today. Can anyone suggest if I have a problem or not? I also have SP2 installed, this was done by the computer supplier on 24th August 2004 when the computer went in for a problem,as far as I know there is no problem with SP2.
If as appears AVG 6.0 is functioning correctly, why is windows suggesting otherwise? ???
Thanks
Derrick

You say you've run it but have you updated it. - sorry if it's an obvious question.
I use avast now which updates automtically but I think avg had to be updated manually0 -
Hi sra555,I have updated AVG,but it appears to be AVG that is telling me that Windows antivirus might be out of date, and I cannot find how to update this assuming it is possible.

Windows doesn't have its own antivirus ???
You're supposed to install your own (like avg)0 -
Thanks sra555,after updating AVG, it took several minutes to remove the "virus out of date" message, but it has now gone and I now seem to be protected again.
Thanks again

think that is a new feature within windows after sp2. you can disable that notification if you want by going into control panel > security centre and within that select "change the way security centre notifies me" and there is a virus check box. wont disable your virus scanner just wont tell you when it is out of date.Ever stop to think and forget to start again?0

Regarding AVG updates, it can be set to automatically update any time you want it to.
As I am on broadband, I have set the 'Scheduler' feature to run the normal AVG program at 1800 hrs every day.
However, If you open the 'Control Centre' and click on the 'Update Manager' tab, you can set it to Update five minutes before at 1755 hrs by ticking the following.
'Allow Scheduled Update'
'Update will start at ( 1755 )'
'Update if database is older than ( 1 ) day
'If not successful, then repeat in ( 2 ) days
'User confirms dial up connection'
I have used this method on both dial up and broadband for the last four years now without any problems.
Hope this helps.0 -
I think it's a bug with SP2. I kept getting message telling me that my anti virus Norton is out of date when it isn't.
I just turned turned off security centre monitoring of anti virus and checked box to check manually.
Hope this helpsWaddle you do eh?0
