Council/HB confirming with LL?

Hi guys,

Friend of mine is having trouble assuring LL that she is on HB and will get paid the £105p/w for the room she is renting.

Can she not expect the council/HB (whichever they are) to phone/contact LL once she gives the council/HB the LL's details, or perhaps request for this specifically to reassure LL?

Without council/HB confirming her status, she may not be able to convince LL..

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Z

    No the council does not need to notify the LL and is under no obligation to.

    The claimant could give permission for the LA to dicsuss the claim with the LL which would enable them to speak, but the LA cannot disclose the claim without permission under DPA.

    Alternativley get your friend to show the LL the award letters they would have received, solves the issue.

    Or - if the landlord is seemingly more convinced by a phone call than the official letter - get someone to pretend they are the HB office.

    <I'm joking>
  • Or just show the landlord the award letters.
    These are my own views and you should seek advice from your local Benefits Department or CAB.

    So by default the council cannot contact her prospective LL and discuss her claim, under dpa?

    Yes unless she gives written permission.
