SD card!

Options
At a recent family special event my Nixon Coolpix came up with a message saying this card cannot read this. It would take a picture but not store it so I misssed out on special moments at the party. I stored the pics I did have onto my laptop and decided to format the card. It goes through the process of doing it but then when you turn it back on it asks you if you want to format and starts all over again. Just wondering if it is likely to be a fault with the card (only bought recently from Asda) or my camera?

The camera might like to have the card formatted in it's own way (usually the cluster sizes).
If it doesn't work after that, it's knackered.

It's just weird sometimes, you can sometimes format a card in a PC and it won't work in the camera, but you can format in camera and it'll work fine in the PC.

is the lock on or off on the card - if its locked then you wont be able to write or format the card - just unlock it by sliding the tiny lock up towards the gold connectors

  • I would think it is off as I was using the camera at the time of getting the "card cannot be read" message and now I can't format it.

you can aways read a card even when locked - when locked you cannot write to the card, you cannot delete stuff off the card, and you cannot format it
