I had a look on the cars 4 charities website and even they weren't clear on whether the cars are UK specced or not. It says in their FAQ that "most" cars are from the uk, but some are imports. I couldn't easily see which though. I'll have to drop them an email to find out first.

Please keep us updated. Thank you.
  • You need to be clear about various types of sellers: car supermarkets are not brokers, nor are they franchised brand dealers.

A car supermarket is a physical used/pre reg' car sales lot...a large version of the traditional used car forecourts.

Brokers can be split into 2 groups: the vast majority will be selling pre registered and / or imports. What is NOT mentioned on their websites is the clue - phrases like 'UK registered' can usually mean it is an import that will eventutally be registered here when you buy it (as per DVLA rules!). Also, if the website doesn't shout "you will be first & only registered owner" all over it (like ours does!) then doen't assume you will be...it more usually means you're buying an already registered car and may not get the logbook for some months.

There is a handful of brokers, like ourselves who are recommended by MSE, who offer completely normal first owner deals where you only ever hand your money to a main franchised dealer.

When you approach a seller you need to ask:
    1) Do I pay the main franchised dealer? (if the answer is 'no', then you are not buying a new car from a normal dealer, you are paying a third party).
    2) Is it normal UK spec' from a franchised brand dealer?
    3) Will I be fiirst and only registered owner?

Based on the answers you get, judge yourself whether the deal is comparatively that good, depending on the conditions of sale.
