Credit Expert says I've signed up with them before; but I'm 99% certain I never have

Just tried to sign up with Credit Expert to have a peek at my credit file in their 30 day free trial, and it claimed I have signed up before. The only service of this type I can ever think of using was Check My File, and that was a long while back. I tried their forgotten details page, and that can't match my details when I put in any of the three past email addresses I have had (the only 3 I have used since turning 18) so I am utterly perplexed.
Their CS is closed, so can't call 'till tomorrow; but I just wonder if there's any benefit to a fraudster signing up with my details for some reason?

When you sign up with them, they will only allow you to see your credit score i.e. 999 or 123 & your account number. They post your pin number which allows you full access to the account out to your home address for extra security. So unless it was someone in your household who signed up I would say it was unlikely someone had signed you up fraudulently.

I thought I had signed up for them a few years back but tried to sign up anyway & when I logged on I realised it must have been Equifax I actually signed up for. Maybe you did it & just forgot years ago?

    That's not always the case.

They seem very inconsistent regarding this, because when I signed up for CreditExpert they allowed me to see my report immediately without sending me anything in the post, but when I ordered my £2 statutory report the other day, they sent me something in the post (which I'm still waiting for).

Do you know how long they have been doing this for?

At 27 it could only have been in the last 9 years; and certainly wasn't in the first 3 of those. I've had the same email address for the remaining 6, and their 'forgotten details' form can't find me under any email address I have ever had. That's what I find most odd; that they don't seem to have my details, yet claim I have signed up before. If the forgotten details form found me, I'd have to concede that I had indeed signed up.
