If loan company say I did not have PPI, should you believe them?

I've lost the paperwork regarding a loan I paid off in 2009. The company says I did not have PPI on this account. Can you believe banks, etc., if they say this?

if you dont believe them then spend £10 and do a DSAR or supply them with a copy of your records.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
