Im lactose intolerant and allergic to eggs so will look at alternatives, goiong to a Holland and Barrett sometime this week, will see if there is anything in there

If you're willing to take pills, there are OTC pills available to help with lactose intolerance.

I've gotten mine shipped to me from my parents in the US, but a friend here has found lactase enzyme supplements from health food stores.

I know the general advice from docs is to live with it (or that's what mine told me) but there are options if you want them.

Being allergic to eggs is much more complicated than lactose intolerance. I only know because my cousin is allergic to eggs and the reaction when she has inadvertently eaten something that contains some egg is quite scary.

OP can you tolerate soya milk? If so this recipe may work for you

Either that, or experiment with different types of milk.

There are two brands that I have found to be good, 'really' which is made in the UK but aside from one niche vegan shop in London I cannot find anywhere, and Amisa-which despite being vegan tastes exactly like proper mayo it's just a bit thinner in texture and less white. The Amisa one can be purchased on amazon and various other sites, I have put a product request in with Ocado for it too but they don't seem interested xx
  • Thanks to all who replied/commented.

My wife is lactose intolerant and has high cholesterel (cannot take statins). The Solesse mayo was great, as one poster mentioned, egg-free (eggs have lactose), dairy free and gluten free. It has zero cholesterel content.
The poster who asked if I would pay three times the cost; probably. I have read so many forums where people have praised Solesse that I find it strange that ASDA say it doesn't sell. We used to buy 3 or 4 bottles at a time.

Eggs do not contain lactose. Only milk and its products contain lactose.

Eggs do not raise blood cholesterol. http://www.bhf.org.uk/default.aspx?page=12920

I don't want to divert this thread from a search for vegan mayonnaise, but your wife should speak to her doctor to dispel the anxiety that must be caused by this sort of misinformation.

Holland & Barrett stock the Plamil vegan mayo - they do a garlic version too, it's really good!
  • Managed to find dairy/egg free mayo in Sainsburys today in the free frrom section. It's called tiger tiger and is 1.59, hope this helps :)

  • Thanks you for correcting my statement that eggs contain lactose.
