twin tubs

Is anyone still using a twin tub wash machine/
I have been asked to get one for an elderly gent, he cant be persuaded to get a modern automatic.

There seems to be a Thomson one for around £280 (never heard of them)
Also, lots of small portable ones. are these any good?
He does a wash every 2 weeks, and it must be able to cope with bedding .
Any advice welcome ,please.

Twin tubs are hard to get hold of now, but my mum wishes I didn't get here to change to an automatic a few years back.

They are a pain, but you save water and more importantly time. However don't do what I did, when the 'rents' went on Holiday. My sister got me to do the laundry in the TT. All was ok until I had to empty it and forgot to put the drainage pipe into the sink. Went to have a smoke outside, to find the kitchen flooded.

Cost me a fortune to sort, new lino etc.

Brand wise, I think you will be restricted. Go into your local Euronics centre, they can get any brand/model you can get. Will be better than the likes of currys or the net, as they don't have to buy in bulk, so can get one offs for you, so will be nicer to deal with.

Thanks for the link. I too had one many years ago in my first flat, my sister kindly washed my wool jumper in it , and kindly shrunk it for me lol!

My old twin tub used to walk across the kitchen - once it actually ended up in the hall. :D

the small portable ones are really meant to be used in caravans etc. and cant do a big load, so no bedding

They don't have any online, however if you find your local shop, go in and ask for one, they will be able to offer you a selection.

The goods online is 1/200 th of what they can get for you.

    That's what's good about buying from a shop !:D

Tell him they went out with hansom cabs, and you can not get one. It will be better in the long run!

Get a reasonable quality/cheap auto and get it plumbed in.

Show him "only" one programme with written instructions to use! Or Felt tip marker on dial.

Wait a month and then get justification / thanks / best thing ever bought scenario:)

I printed off some product details for him. since then his sister told me he often handwashes too, so maybe he just needs a spin drier.
RE getting a modern one, he wont let us move his trusty table and chairs to plumb one in. lol .

One portable one takes a 5.6 kg load so surely that will wash a sheet or 2 ? as its the same as some autos?

Avoid this company i bought one from them and had no end of problems , once they get your money the customer service ends , delivery was late /parts missing etc.

They dont answer phone calls are i believe are more of a middle man than actual stockist.
