How do I take a "screen shot", please?

I need to take a screen shot and email it to someone. Could someone give me a step-by-step guide? I'd be very grateful.

    Press PrtSc button on keyboard

    Then go into Start-Programs-Accessories-Paint

and then paste and save it and then you can attach it in an e-mail.

Press the Prnt Scrn key. Then open Paint (in All Programs - Accessories) and click Edit - Paste. Save it as a JPEG. If you only want to capture the active window, press Alt+Prnt Scrn.

There is a really good free program for screen capture. I use it all the time. You can capture the whole screen or a window or a rectanglar area. It saves the image in lots of different formats.

    Here it is.

Holding ALT + Print Screen "copies" it into the clipboard which you can "paste" into your email.

You do not need to use paint and save it unless you want a permanent copy.

Depending on your email software, it may be a good idea though. You can save it as a JPG which will likely reduce the size of the email. If you insert several images and they are Bitmaps, it won't be long before the size is several MB's.

On a Mac you hold [shift][cmd] and hit 3 (or 4, which gives you a cursor so you can select the area you want to save). The image will be saved to your desktop or Hard Drive.

Just a word of warning from a lifelong cheapskate, the default download is vers. 4.2, ie the paid for version. 4.1 is the freebie, you have to look for it. Is the freebie worth having, anyone know????

Yep, it may be free - but it is very good.

However it's not as good as Irfanview which can do so much more, including screen captures and is also free.

I can't believe the people install a program just for screen prints!
