Post completion problem with Chattels.

Hi,
After a quick bit of advice please.
Bought a lovely house, sale went through, everyone was happy... until we switched on the Fridge/ Freezer and realised it wasn't working.
It is an integrated fridge/ freezer, built as part of a fitted kitchen - and advertised as such on the Estate Agents billing.
It was listed in the chattels, as being in working order - as far as they knew. No warranty was given on the appliance; the house was in probate so the sellers were not living there.
The sellers have come back and said it's sold as seen.
Given that it was advertised as a fully fitted kitchen. Is there grounds to go back to the seller and get some form compensation?
Fitted Fridge freezer units can be expensive to replace, and as I've given them best part of a quarter million quid feel a little annoyed...
Your thoughts appreciated
Thanks

Unfortunately it is down to you to check prior to completion that things are in working order.0

Not really - firstly it is as described - no warranty but working as far as they knew which bearing in mind its a probate property would largely be based on assumption as they weren't actually living there.
However as a practical note - often these items have an isolator switch in an accessible position above the work top - this is because current electrical regs require you to be able to isolate it from the mains in case it catches fire. Its worth checking all these switches (and any hidden in cupboards etc) are switched on. I recently came across a freezer that had been plugged in and switched on beneath the work top, but wasn't working (I discovered this when a load of thaw water came out when I opened the door!) because the socket had an isolator switch above and a little way away.
You may of course simply be unlucky in that when the compressor on the fridge/freezer was switched off on death, it gave up the ghost and no longer works but I'd check for odd switches etc first!Adventure before Dementia!0 -
This happen with a house I bought, I just bit the bullet and bought a new one!0

Reminds me of a girl I once went out with. When her car got too dirty she used to trade it in for a new one.0 -
Thanks everyone.
I guess I too must bite the bullet0 -
Just being a dumbo here... is the light coming on in the fridge, if not, check fuses, check it is switched on (separate socket maybe... isolator switch...???). Try it on an extension lead to be sure....
My below-the-counter fridges and dw/wm are not only on their own socket, there's a fused spur switch above the counter.0
