For the sake of posterity I thought I would add in here that I finally took the plunge on Friday, placed a deposit and will be collecting the new gal tonight. I went for a 2007 BMW 3 series Estate in a lovely bright red colour. It was a little above my budget (that happens a lot!) but quite low mileage at 51,000 and looks and drives fantastically, so I'm hoping it will do me proud for the next 4 or 5 years.
Thanks again for everyone's advice!Increasingly money-conscious
